You have to have your own Truck,Trailer,,your own Authority,,if you can't find direct shipper find good broker who has that shipper; not someone like CHR,TQL from my experience these big brokerages will never put you on with one account and will always give you the cheap price and will never lock any decent price with you, if they find someone $50 cheaper from you they will give the load to them they have no integrity/ethics to give the freight to someone's who's been doing good job, they are all about squeezing every penny from O/O.

Some companies just do not care what the market looks like they still have to abuse the O/Os like Epes Logistics. I just called on a load from Burlington NJ to Greensboro NC about 500 miles total run (loaded and DH). She offered whopping $530 for it in the snow and the hottest market of NJ. These days the load to truck ratio is running at 5.38 loads/ Truck and total posting for the week running at 22741 posts. Todays posting rate was at 38 posts / min very strong for this area. My question is if these people have balls to try to make you work for fuel only in this kind of market in the snow then how every one is surviving?????? and who is working for them?????

    atrucker,
Unfortunately, in my opinion, trucking is not what it used to be....I'll be glad to offer info, advice , etc. to anyone who I can help....
    You had posted :

Basically, if today's "Owner Operator" accepts these loads, then the rates will never increase...
.....at the same time, small to large trucking companies are running loads in NJ/PA/MD/NY ...getting a good rate per mile, then don't care if the rate they get to get out is ...say...$1.10/m-$1.25/m....it's the way it's been since deregulation.....That's why CH Robinson and other "Back Haul" broker's" exists .....

This is not my opinion, I'm just relaying this statement...:
"In today's trucking Industry, a very large percentage of Owner Operators ,
    1) Do not know their actual cost per mile...or fuel cost per trip...etc.
    2) Do not know how to accurately gauge the truck/load ratio in different markets or the country and times of the year.
    3) Most Owner Operators are truck drivers, not business managers...A very Large percentage have never owned or managed
a successful business in the past.
    4) Most owner Operators spend very little time educating themselves
as how to be more successful....properly...not gossip at the truck stop with other drivers.

When you figure out the trucking industry, it will already have changed.....

Hell CH Robinson is already running containers all over the country in order to
survive when the ELD come into play in the near future....and their still not paying
a fair market value, and most of these loads are moved by O/O's with their Own Authority and their Own Tractor.

If the market is so hot that as soon the load is posted it gets covered at the same time of posting. Then DAT and Internet Truck Stop should be per suet a Class Action Law Suit, becasuse of providing false numbers to the Gov, Industry and OOs and many otherers.
This is common (when I call) in the market with 5.38 loads /truck and total posts of 22741/ week and landstar agent says it has been covered.
Why the OOs support these crooks and how is possible for the OOs to not notice a wide open Law Suit. I know it might be bit difficult because behind the seen under cover industry is working on the Macho side, but still it is no brainer to win.
Below is the load posted, look at the time it was posted called.

The more I read here, the less desire I have to go back to trucking after being gone for 12 years... I really think I'll do something else.

    atrucker...........

I feel your pain, I 'understand' you while others here may not.

While most of what people are posting is true and accurate..........you gotta be smarter....

GET YOUR OWN CUSTOMERS!! I know its work anfd doesnt happen overnight..but If you continue to work for brokers..It will be a long and painful experience.....

The Last thing you EVER want to happen is work your tail off..And have NOTHING to show for your efforts...

go get your own customers...You'll thank me later for it

    There are NO other options

I think the wakeup n smell coffee is the way to go. This country is not what it used to be, it is totally run by some kind of mafia behind the seen or Taliban group of some kind. Capitol-ism has totally been taken out of proportionate. The courts are not the same any more. I have proven the case against Allen Lund in the court that he posts loads in NJ and out of NJ with tons of proof, but the judge Claypool or some thing like that) says we have no control over them and closed the case mysteriously. Kenny Lund owes me $3000+ for the load, we did for them providing them the beast service possible and got on time on Pickup n Delivery. Both side took way over two hours to load (CSM Bakery Products Tucker GA. 5 hors to load) n unload (C&S Wholesale Westfield MA 7 hours to unload) . Did not get paid for fuel advance (was it pre-planned? they say they always pay fuel advance) did not get paid for the load at all whatsoever. Paid lumper out of pocket. There BOND rep Dave Carney or some name like that said the same thing like FFF off and talk to them about it. There is no one sensible to talk to when called, (was the call intercepted ??). Like I said in an earlier Post there is no union in O/Os and OOIDA is joke ( they asked me what color are you to give an insurance Quote n then it was $8200 for safe driver n company fro 60k miles/years 4 years. I think O/Os need to understand that any time any kind of complaint from fellow truckers it should be considered properly. It is very hard to say any thing to begin with most of them cant even write.

Agreed completely!! In fact, I posted something similar where I referred to the political ###### in Washington to be nothing more than Nazis, and a moderator here decided to remove it... At this point, I'm planning on staying where I am even though I do "have it in my blood" to grab gears. Unless I had my own customers, I wouldn't consider it. I work as a Commodities Trading Advisor, and like what I do, but being behind a desk all day isn't easy when I was used to grabbing gears years ago.
