Were doing away with our day cabs and getting rid of a lot of the local P&D runs in southern California for some reason. Those were sweet set runs guys are making 6 digit incomes and home weekends and at night.

I am walmart vendor and a big fan.. Just an FYI be because I think it will impact you guys a little. The end of the fiscal year is the last day of Jan. This year there is a big focus on running out the inventories on DC to have an extra low inventory level. This helps with financial reporting, in that it can help the profit and loss numbers if they are close. This helps Walmart stock price. This is my 14th year working with Walmart and the first time I have ever seen such a focus on low inventory levels for year end. We have been instructed to run down inventory and push whatever we can out till feb 1 arrival. This focus is not unusual for retailers, but new to walmart. I think you will see a big slow down and then a huge woooosh of movement.... We are a small vendor, but not tiny...

yikes!!!
I have a question, I've been day cab and hotelin it for quite a while what do you guys do for internet on the road, I currently do wifi at the hotel with my lap top I also have a smart phone. Would be interested in what you guys are doing Thanks
Anyone else going to Spring Valley?mruffin Thanks this. -
Well, unfortunately you'll have to now pay for internet access but you'll be able to afford it. I got a Verizon Jetpack wifi hotspots. I got the prepay version ($99 at...wait for it...Walmart! LOL). Then I buy the airtime cards as needed. Pros-4g Lte and can connect up to 10 devices. Con-data is costly. Verizon smokes crack. If you have a Verizon (best coverage of all providers) contract you could add a hotspot probably for free by just paying for extra data. Another option is Straight Talks new hotspots. $79 (Walmart), much cheaper data. Pro-cheaper data. You get more for less. Device costs less than (prepay) Jetpack. No contract. Con-only runs off of 3g (DOES use Verizon network though and I have a galaxy s3 through straight talk on Verizon network and the 3G is pretty fast), and you can only use ONE device at a time. Not a problem for me, probably wouldn't be a problem for you either, but I would like to see them allow you to connect at least two or three devices to make me switch from the Verizon Hotspot I already have to theirs. Another option, if you have a contract phone through Verizon or AT&T and the phone you have has the capability to work as a hotspot, you would then only need to pay for additional data without the need for additional devices. Hope this was of some help.
luvtotruck, Mrpeanut and mruffin Thank this. -
Such a wealth of info Jim! Hey Gary, they posted a 5/5 on Don's truck since he missed realignment. I think there is going to be some good movement soon with the few other programs that have or may have openings.
655? I get tired when I turn numbers like that now! lol I am happy when I get between 4-5 hundred a day. Sunday really burned me cause of the wait time and having to swap out. Oh well guess I will make up for it when I come back on Friday. Counting down the days to STEAK! Yummy! -
Danny stout told about Sunday and all the wait time.. Yep 655... But I usually do 625 had to go long way around the accident north of Bellville.. Darn glad we get paid off Hub !!
Didn't know that about Donns truck.. I thought he missed realignment, too bad for him -
Very busy week and glad to be home. Mostly grocery loads with lots of activity. I saw Menomonie once during the week and it was just a stop in for fuel and a shower as I was under a load for Hammond, Indiana. Got in and out of our Center Point in Hammond before they shut the gate due to lake effect snow yesterday morning. Lots of snow in that particular area, but once I got about 20 miles away the roads were just fine. We have a very interesting project coming up end of February/early March. Our warehouse is doing a sorter upgrade and will only be running at 50%. Half of the stores we service will be distributed to other DC's in the region. Mt.Pleasant Iowa is getting the majority. Menomonie is keeping Western Wisconsin, everything north of I90 in Minnesota, and all of North Dakota during the project. They say it will take about a month to complete the upgrade. I think it is going to be very busy for us during that time. With getting extra drivers to the other DC's to cover the extra stores, plus all the vendor loads that normally go to Menomonie going to other DC's it is going to be crazy. I will volunteer for extra work if they have it. Make a little extra hay while the sun shines. Good luck to all the new hires coming aboard. You will like it here. Take your time and do the job right and do it safely. The speed and efficiency will come later. Be patient. To all the those who are in the process of applying and interviewing, good luck. Everything mentioned in this thread about the process is right on the money. Take care and be safe everybody!
mruffin Thanks this. -
yeah he did miss it. I guess he doesn't want to work that hard and I don't blame him. I was talkin to him on Monday in Tom's office. I didn't know he was back. I heard about that accident, no fun but extra pay for you!
Josh sounds like its been really good for you up that way. New B will be having some internal construction as well and we will be handling a good portion of their stores as well during that time.Last edited: Jan 22, 2014

Thank's Jim for the great info for internet service, I'm gona try my phone carrier T-mobile first, they have a thirty day money back. if that doesn't work well i'll go with straight talk. T-Mobile is a bit cheaper (I'm Ultra Cheap lol) but the hardware without a contract is 149. T-Mobile vs 79. Straight talk from WalMart. your right Verizon does seem to get the big thumbs up for data coverage... BTW Straight Talk Now can be teathered with 5 devices.
Thanks for the help!
