still at gary waiting for trailer light issue repair, pretty sure the 5th wheel issue is just that the cylinder is cold n sticky. the cylinder is only 1 month old....

being that I am not under a load, I keep getting "bumped" so trucks under a load get repaired first.

day 3 of this adventure will begin at about 11AM.

Q: at what point does it make more fiscal sense to just get me a load and have me stop at a T/A or something for the repair?

seems to me Roehl is losing revenue every minute this truck sits.....

plus I was supposed to get home today :/

no big deal as long as im home by sunday for my Monday dentist apt, the missing filling/chipped tooth is starting to become "uncomfortable" what with the cold and all :(

When they say appt at 0900 at Fam$ they mean don't even show us your paperwork until then. Come back in at your appt time. 45 min early? See you in 45 min. Really? First warehouse that I've run into a timekeeper. Still will take 2-3 hrs to unload 25 pallets.

It's odd how if you need an extra day off at home you may not get it because they lose revenue when the truck sits but sitting 3-4 days trying to get it fixed? Nooooo problem.

I live in an area where Roehl has very few customers. When home time came I would often dead head home 100-250 miles. I always stayed out 30-60 days and came home for special events or when my wife and kids would be around. A couple of times I asked for an extra day after staying out 60+! I was turned down with the "sitting truck/lost revenue" excuse and "36 days out = 7 days off." I reasoned back that if I stayed out 36 days, took 7 days off, went back out 2 weeks and took 3 days off that would equal the same 60 day window plus they had to get me two get home loads and two coming out loads instead of one of each when I stayed out 60 straight! I was advised that Roehl had a formula that showed they lost revenue if the truck sat 7+ days.

Who does the math at Roehl? Even an elementary school student can see Roehl's math doesn't work in my scenario. This total lack of business math/acumen was just one more thing pushing me towards the door.

    So be it!

Once I hit my limit with their incomprehensible, inflexible home time formula I resolved to never again stay out beyond 36 days and take every day off I had coming. THIS new mindset on my part meant I took even MORE time off than before plus Roehl had to get even more home loads/coming out loads or dead head me. After a year of this I approached them again with staying out 60 days and getting more than 7 off days. I was told my plan would COST them money where as their plan SAVED them money. Who is teaching elementary math at Marshfield grade school?

What we have here is another example of the culture of fear that paralyzes the office at Roehl. When an idea that would save them money but goes against established Roehl policy is requested, office personnel are too scared to even bring it up. When policy is exposed as costly rather than good business no one dares mention it. They've all seen what happens to those that do.

I kept on staying out 36 days and going home. This cost Roehl thousands over the years but they were too stupid to realize it because they have a "formula" that shows it saves them money.

If you're thinking of leaving Roehl, here's something to consider; When this economy finally melts down due to government printing money we don't have and spending trillions more than they bring in, Roehl will be depending on "formulas" like this to get them through!

Roehl business math; just another thing that pushed me out the door when the right opportunity came along.

Banking home time would be another good retention tool for experienced drivers. When I left Roehl back in 2010 I made sure that the new company would allow me to bank hometime.

I argued this same issue in the past and was given the same canned garbage speech. This is also the number one reason why I am reluctant to leave the home time plus fleet.

Yeah, do the math, if you got a driver that does strict 11/3 in under 50 days the truck sits for at least 9 days.
