When I started floating, I found when I tried to DC, it was off and just didn't feel right any more.
Since then I've been DC more and can comfortably say, I do equally well with them both.
"Well" is a subjective term of course
Also, I have noticed, when I'm tired, or frustrated about something (like today, getting my lame ### pay check!) I shift much, much worse...
Do you float gears or double clutch?

I float almost exclusively. Even popping it out of gear, I know how to finesse the throttle to get it to slide right out. Only time I clutch is if I really need to get it out of gear (like downshifting for a shorter offramp) and I don't have as much time.
Starting floating when I hurt my back and my left leg became a pain to lift while seated. I could if I wanted to, but floating was just easier. Now, I float everything up or down. -

When did we start clutching gears in big trucks? That would take the fun out of driving. ------
Truck driving schools are trying to make driving a truck a job anyone can do when it is not. *******
Just recently the clutch rod between my pedal and the trans broke. I drove through New Orleans without a clutch. What does someone who doesn't know how to float do in this circustance ???? -
Hard on that starter motor to pull that off, unless you cruised right through without having to come to a complete stop.
Either they learn to float or they stop and call a tow truck. -
hell now i think you have to be able to double clutch during your skills test or they auto take off 5 points

I originally learned to float gears and passed my dmv test that way but since going "company," I started double clutching since the employers generally like it. The problem now is I can't untrain myself from dc, it just comes natural, just like downshifting for almost every stop before using the service brake.
bighaulc-15 Thanks this. -
I learned to double clutch specifically for my driving test, and when I did it the examiner said quote "What are you doing? You can't float?" lol

I never double clutch. I use the clutch from a dead stop, and to get out of gear when I'm downshifting.
