I was up in Northern ON last night and the road closed shortly after I'd driven through it. I went and got my load(and tarped) so a few hours had gone by. Once I left the mill, I called a local number to check on conditions and the road was still closed so I had ventured to a little town to get some fuel and a shower and parked for the night. Come morning time I had checked at 3-5 and finally at 7 AM I decided to get going as far as I could anyways(had slept long enough and got a small bunk..was getting crowded talking to myself lol). Anyways, made it about 150k down the road and it was shut down for all of 20 min or so before I was able to get to my turn off.

Question is(rookie to OTR), if you come up to a road closure(weather, accident, cow on road..?) what do you guys all do? I guess if you know it'll be awhile might as well catch up on some sleep but other then that..what to do?

First, you call dispatch and inform them of your problem. They will want to call the receiver and let them know. As long as everyone is informed you have done your best.

Normally if the road is closed, that route was the best possible route and any other will be in worst shape. You are stuck with the load so you can't go off and leave it. So, I put on my head phones and listen to my books from Audible.com. If there are other drivers around, I talk to them and sometimes have gotten a poker game started up. Just don't play with those Swifties, they never have any money.

I play on here until I get to a exit that I can find a way around what's plugged up if I have to sit through it I get my trusty zippo out at the end of the day step out of the truck light a cigarette and paper at the same time.

If it is an accident up ahead I will either wait it out or seek an alternative route. If it is construction delay I will sometimes find an alternate route (one comes to mind right now is I-40 between Little Rock and W. Memphis). I don't believe I had a road shut down to due weather alone yet... I usually run in inclement weather unless I don't feel safe enough.

GPS, Phone, Truckers Atlas are what I use to seek an alternative route.

An App that I sometimes use is Waze. This shows cops, traffic jams, and accidents reported by other Waze users.

So if one would have E-Logs, you just throw away the computer and buy a new one? lol.
