Alright, I'll be the final judge here. You should have known that a truck cant' go around you on the left, because it's restricted, and you cant pass on the right. You had the ability to merge or at least turn on your turn signal and attempting to change lanes to let him over.

He should not have rode you that close and definitely should not have flashed his lights.

But I see you as the at fault person in this situation.

Also, not ALL FedEx Ground drivers are bad drivers either. Don't get me wrong, there are certainly idiots, but that is with any company. I see a lot of O/O's hauling steel and whatever else, here in Michigan driver wild and, shouldn't be allowed to have a butter knife to spread butter on toast, let alone drive a big rig.

They do get put under pressure to get the trailers to the terminals before a certain time though, as they can hold up the P&D Drivers from doing their routes, as they are not paid hourly and dont make any money waiting on a late trailer.

All-in-All, suck it up, get over it, it's happened and it's done with and you are not dead. It's peak Season for FedEx and UPS, it is stressful, and if you ordered Christmas Gifts online instead of going to the dang store your self to pick it up. Give them a break, working from dark to dark sucks a pile.

But you said you sped up on the driver. So you're saying the entire right and left lanes were lined with vehicles so when you sped up you had no opportunity to get over? I'm sorry, I don't buy it. Every day it seems I deal with four wheelers acting in dangerous fashions around big trucks. They are the ones who act foolish yet if something happens, it will be blamed on the big truck.

Attitudes like this, of the OP, are dangerous and really wish there were ways to make regular drivers out on the roads more conscious and aware of how to drive when around a truck.

Well, since you had the time, location, and evidently the truck number as well, why come and pitch a fit when you can simply report the truck?

Not necessarily. Unless IL has some sort of blanket law, it depends on the stretch of road and whether or not there are signs posted. If there are no signs, run in any lane as long you're not impeding traffic.

No question he poured gas on the fire when he did that. The ones who perpetuate road rage are no less guilty than the initiators.

No law against that either. Risky sometimes, though not necessarily illegal unless you're trying to do it on the shoulder.

Depending on the speed limit on the highway in question, I would do it, but carefully.

So let me get this straight.

You come here, ostensibly as an aspiring trucker, admit to perpetuating road rage, then decide to insult the ones who could give you all the info you would ever need after getting called out on your own misbehavior?

No thanks, we don't need it here. Your wish is granted. Good bye and good riddance.

lol - a little slow to the party? that request was a month and a half ago.

I'm wannabe, where can I find these truck driver specific rules that you've clarified? I'd like to educate myself. Thanks.

Yeah I know. Better late than never I reckon. I just wish I'd found it sooner. I sure don't like to keep folks waiting.

Just go by the signs on the highway. I can't say much about IL since I rarely venture out of MD. But here, you can run any lane as long as there are no signs posted saying otherwise.

What the OP failed to understand, was that while it may not have been necessarily required for him to move over and let faster traffic pass, especially on a highway with truck lane restrictions, it is at least the courteous thing to do.

Something else you can do is pick up the lasts edition of the Rand McNally Motor Carriers' Atlas. It's not cheap, but there is a wealth of information inside.

Thanks. My number 1 pet traffic peeve is when people don't keep right. I was very pleased about a year ago, when they finally posted the "slower traffic keep right" signs on the phoenix roadways. Less than one month later they were all taken down. No idea why.

My second pet peeve is drivers who flick cig butts out the window. I was at the auto show last month and had a nice conversation with a cop and asked him about it. He told me in all his years, he has never heard of a ticket being written for this. So a flaming fire hazzard that will be in the ditch for the next 10 years - no ticket. An apple core that is back into the earth in a week - that is littering. Go figure (he was completely on board).

Thanks for the atlas tip - I actually picked one up a couple weeks back. I found the info in the front to be great, but the two inch gaps in the maps (for the borders on each page and the large coil binding) make the maps hard to read. Found the atlas at flying j for 30$ - amazon wanted 45 + shipping.

Bergy after awhile you'll be able to look at that map and not even see those gaps anymore. I always get the laminated ones cause they make a good table to eat on and are a cinch to wipe off!! My eyes automatically skip past the gap and find the same road with no problem anymore.
