    Yeah, breaking 65mph in California is a good way to pay for someone else's lunch, and that's a fact.

    They don't seem to really care too much in those Northern Flat States.

    My truck will do 70 and then some... but why drive yourself out of a job? It's the drivers with the, "I don't pay for the fuel" attitude and the ones who are selling off fuel that the company paid for, that cause the company to turn down ALL the trucks.

    You better be afraid for your job. There's gonna be a shakedown in this industry soon if the price of fuel doesn't come down real quick. Those with deep pockets and/or the skillful penny-pinchers will be the ones who survive.

    Ron,I'm not getting into a peeing contest with you about American Economics 101 for several reasons.... I'm not a commie and I'm all for making as much and going as far as you can or at least as far as you want to.I've owned 3 contracting businesses ( portable welding,UG utility,excavating)in my life,have been a partner in a couple of more(body/restoration shop,used auto sales) and have ran more than a few major power plant and underground utility construction projects for other companies.I've shut them down or quit for many different reasons.Bored with some,went broke with others,health reasons and some I really don't know why I quit.Stupidity I guess.I've owned and driven my own class 8 trucks and I've worked for several folks driving their trucks.I had enough money laid back at the age of 30 that I was deluded enough to think I could retire and do nothing but ride motorcycles and truck show the rest of my life and a few years later I was so broke I had to BORROW fuel money to go to work for somebody else.Divorces will stomp your ### without a good lawyer or if you don't pay attention.During my working life I don't think I would be lying to say I've had at a bare minimum of 2500 + employees down line from me and I NEVER lorded over any single one of them nor did I hide anything from them that might effect their families or livelyhood.NOBODY ever gave me anything whatsoever and the only leg I got up from my dad was his insistance when I was in HS for me to learn a trade and after HS to help get me in a craft union.So I'm all for the American way Ron and I'm fully aware of how it works because I've seen it from just about every possible angle and direction and the ONLY reason I posted all of this background to you was to let you know I've been farther under the porch looking for eggs than most have.

    What I meant in my earlier post to you was...I'm not for bigheaded ,arrogant A hole outfits that dump on their employees and don't except the fact that that they(the owners) got to where they are by the sweat of somebody elses brow too.And companies,managers,owners etc who don't realize that are IMHO a lower life form.Kinda like maggots,only worse.I totally agree with you about some have nots making it by hard work and many do it daily.But more often than not,a hard worker just stays where he's at in life if he's working for a crap company owner because the crap company owner does not share with him monetarily nor include him in anything other than what his next assignment is.How is that hard worker getting ahead Ron?He may be paying his bills and putting cheap groceries on the table,taking his wife and kids fishing in a 20 yo camper while the company owner entertains his wife in some exotic resort and his mistress in Cancun and all the while bragging how HE built the company.All I'm saying Ron is,THEY built the company.Give them the respect and a share of the goodies.Don't hide everything from them like you're so very much smarter because trust me,a guy out there driving,welding,working the shovel or operating your equipment on one of your jobs is on the front lines and he/she knows a hell of a lot more about whats going than you think and in some cases a hell of a lot more than what the company owner does.Thats especially true in cases where the company owner inherited the company.So no offense Ron,thats the way I see it thru experiences.

    I love a triple digit truck. Even if you aren't running it up there. Its so much smoother. Pulls hills like it should. Doesn't worry you to death, rowing the shifter all day long like a one arm man in a canoe race. Last 3 digit truck I drove would get up and run when needed and get back down to the 6mpg range if needed as well. Its all in the foot and how you work the truck.

    What gets me is someone over the radio talkin about you and asking how fast your going, whats your hurry, and all of that. Please.. don't bust me out over the radio.. certain people listen and watch the roads... the type of people that will have one hand on your wallet and a hand wratchet on you before you see them.

    If its late at night and you see a glow coming in your mirrors and next thing you know its a mile ahead of you... just wish it was you and don't talk about it. Same goes for during the day. If i'm running up there in the speed and I see someone creeping up on me.. even though I'm running on up, I still get over when I can. Lord knows a good front door is the best thing to have.

    Oh and be sure you have bail money if you want to run. They aren't afraid to give you a hot and a cot for the night, then take a few weeks pay to boot. (depending where you are... *cough cough* Pheonix....) Its best just to get them laughing about it with you. Usually doesn't take too much. They're still gonna throw the book at you, and don't fight with them. Its just money.

    I advise no one to run like that though. But I will. Its not about hot freight or cold chickens. Its just the feel of it. Something that can't be explained.. just experianced.

    Buy a sports car, hit the track and be safe about it.
    A rig at 100 is nothing compared to a car at 175+:biggrin_25525:

    Two points:
    1. I for one thank God that I still live in a country where we can try and fail and yet try again and succeed;
    2. I believe in KARMA, as in people eventually get what they deserve. If you build a company with the premise that you partner with your employees you'll share in the success. If you build a company with the premise that your employees are nothing but "Chattel" and take advantage of them, sure you'll achieve success but ask Ken Lay (well no he's dead), or Jeff Skilling who is currently in prison http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeffrey_Skilling. Ask John Rigas from Adelphia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Rigas. Eventually those who lie, cheat, or steal all get caught. They all recieve their JUST REWARDS.
    I believe that to become successful, we must have integrity and accountability. These two key elements are paramount requirements in business. Without them, you might just as well be as a mob boss, and run "dirty" completely out in the open.

    I am wondering why you think they have to "tell" you they are turning THEIR trucks down? I mean, as an employee, you really assume no risk in the company. You don't pay for the equipment, nor do you pay for the fuel. You are always free to find another company to work for if you feel you are being "disrespected".

    But going 70 mph doesn't guarantee an average speed of 70mph. In fact; if you average in scale house stops, start time (at beginning of day), stop time (at end of day) plus stopping twice for pee breaks and once for lunch, your average mph is probably going to be closer to 64 anyway.
