I just joined this forum. I really dont know what to say except! Right on Brother!! I took the whole month off till the 18th of March. Worked on the old Pete in the front yard. Worked another seasonal gig down here in FL. (strawberries) If their is gonna be a strike, Lets do it!!

We need to strike for a reliable linehaul rate plus a fuel surcharge 100% to fuel purchaser. $1.50/mile linehaul + fuel surcharge based on $1.25/gallon fuel. At $4/gal would be $0.63. If you can't afford to strike then drive 45!

It seems to me, the price of fuel isn't the problem. It's people that are willing to work for free that are the problem.
And these people will continue to work if fuel hits $10 a gallon, and they only get .75 a mile total...at least until the bank comes for their truck.
A proper business model includes pricing your services ABOVE your cost...not below. -
I know how much it takes to operate. I do not run for less than $1.75/mile. I cant and wont. If you look at the load boards you will not find $3.17/mile freight. If you do let me know because I will haul it. It is the multitude of $1/mile freight that abounds on the load boards that is un-american.

Paying road service's inflated prices won't help the bottom line any. -
A forced minimum wage only further depresses the rates. If shippers and brokers know that the least they can get away with is xxx they'll never have any incentive to up the rate.
My cost alone for fuel is .80 a mile. Add in driver wages, tires, truck payment, trailer payment, maintenance, tax issues, etc etc and we are looking at far more than just a buck and a half. -

I don't know if the government CAN do anything about the fuel prices,at least quickly enough to help truckers. Yes diesel is higher priced but so is everything else. It doesn't matter whether the increase comes from linehaul rates or FSC or both, it needs to come and the increase NEEDS to be passed on to the trucks, not to the brokers or the guys who arrange shipping or whoever. $1.25 linehaul and .63 FSC at $4 fuel is NOT too much to ask for.
BUT I think prices will go up, they have already gone up supposedly because of the rising cost of fuel, sometimes it was an excuse to jack prices up. FSC HAS to keep up with the price of fuel, NOT the price it was two weeks ago. Truckers will end up with consumers being madder # them maybe, this needs to be avoided as much as possible but consumers ALREADY think we are responsible for the rising prices in the supermarket and Wal Mart!!!!
We know how much a truckload is and the price increase is NOT going to be that great on smaller items or lighter items. It WILL be fairly significant on larger or heavier items as it should be, for the simple fact you can't get so many on a trailer. BUT the alternative is a great deal of the trucks not being able to move because they are on repo lots or just can't afford fuel. We are a country that DOES NOT like to do without but it's not a question of doing without anymore for truckers, it's a choice of feeding their families or paying the elcetric bill AND buying fuel!! -
You've been out there. We are all a bunch of KIDS at heart but when it comes to FIGHT TIME? We either stick together or we fall apart... lol
And the Industry is coming together! ROME was not built in a day....
And the Industry didn't get this bad " OVERNIGHT". You know its a SLOW process.

I personally don't think the strike was the smartest thing to do. What is the governement going to do? I could care less about a FSC all I care about is my rate I charge my shipper covers my fuel bill. If fuel goes up, my freight rate I charge goes up. The real problem is the people hauling CHEAP FREIGHT! If you don't make a dime hauling cheap freight, you won't make a dime sitting waiting for them to pay you to haul that freight. Trust me if we all turned down cheap freight for ONE DAY they would pay more the next day! JB, SWIFT, ETC. will NEVER EVER have enough trucks/trailers to haul that cheap freight.
