Hi! My sweet husband just mentioned that he heard through a relative that texas cdl will require drivers to have a neck size 17 inches or less. He does have sleep apnea, hbp and diabetes. All are controlled with medication and cpap machine. His neck is 19 1/2 and he's working on his weight; currently 290.
I haven't found anything on the web to verify or not. Any info would be appreciated!
Thank you very much. Be safe.

I think a lot of the companies will require persons to have a sleep apnea test done with that size neck already, 17-17 1/2 is the range they start at.

I believe I read that the cpap machine has to be able to have the reading submitted also where it shows how much it has been used etc.

Thank you for responding. Tim has had his cdl for 40 years and probably isn't as current as some drivers but I'm going to fix that!!! He drives intrastate only; if that matters to the answer.
Sorry for the incomplete information in the question; this is all new to me. We are still relatively newlyweds!
We live in far North Dallas/ Plano.

    it is probably driver bs
that is confusing 2 different issues
the feds are making states track medical certificates
and more companies are requiring sleep apnea studies
but it isn't a law of the land for everyone anywhere
not to say it isn't coming

FMCSA has put out "recommendations"or "guidance" for sleep apnea studies for different findings during health exams. Which, I believe, is to get the ball rolling on the issue without creating a regulation with formal hearings on the matter. Companies always err on the side of Government to keep them happy.

Congress slapped them on the wrist for doing this back in September.

This doesn't stop the issue from becoming law. It just means that now the Media will have a scare story to write about truck drivers once the hearings start.

Skinny people have sleep apnea too!
