Greetings, my name is Chris. I am writing because I am wanting to obtain my Commercial Drivers License and would like to see if you folks would be willing to help me with some information.

First, I have a criminal record. To keep it simple, I am order to register to the sex offender registry. My case is almost 10 years old and I have been home for almost 5 years. It is a class "D" non-violent felony.
Second, I am financially indigent and will need complete financial aid.
Third, as you can imagine I need to find a place to hire me.

So the question is this. Do you know of any company and/or school that offers financial aid, training, and perhaps would hire me or help me get with a company that would hire me for employment (regardless of my past)?

Have you talked to the unemployment office? Some states pay for CDL school for unemployed.

I'm going through the WIA program in Kingman, AZ. Just waiting on my pre-hire letters (Faxed apps yesterday) They're sending me to AIT in Las Vegas.
Sure, there were a few hoops to jump through but all in all not that difficult. I had to take a career assessment test as well as a knowledge test, (reading comprehension & math) had to apply for a fafsa loan/grant, (According to the WIA counselor this is going to get denied, at which point the WIA funds will be issued) they're paying for the school & lodging while in school. I was actually surprised at how simple it was.

Thanks for this information.. I will look into this. The only thing I have found each time I asked a local office they kept telling me there was no funding.

If you scrolled further down to 16th on the list you would find a thread about the W.I.A.- its in the tittle. Unfortunately it has been closed, but the link that chinatown posted is perfect and gives you all the info. you need. Also as far as funding that may be true, there is a link that gives a breakdown of how it is distributed thru out the state, i know Suffolk County where i am i was shocked because it is the second highest allotment of like 2 1/2 Mill., but funding or not, from the sound of it, it sounds like you made a phone call...?

Had to eat, if you made a phone call, waste of time, won"t get anything done that way, you gotta go there, do the orientation bla,bla,..I mean you don"t seriously think that your gonna call or go an walk thru the door an say i need a job and boom here"s your grant,(reread big wall mike) and weather the money is there or not the point is to get on the list for the grant, as i"m sure there are already people that are, so the longer you wait the more people ahead of you, it could take a week or a year....
As far as the criminal stuff goes don"t minimize it, it"s with you forever, it"s a felony, own it, and that"s ruff, because in my view that"s more of a problem than getting on the W.I.A. list.
