Just want to echo the part about going to Franks trip planning class, DO IT. Part of passing through orientation is being able to do trip planning Schneider's way, which is basically using a system that they have set up where you fill out a form with information and then make calculations based off of the info you put into the form. It can be pretty confusing for some (it was for me). It doesn't matter how you will trip plan when you're on your own, you need to be able to do it right on this sheet for your SQTs if I remember correctly. Frank's class is extremely helpful and doesn't more than an extra 30 minutes or so one night.
The cookout is awesome for good, cheap food, but if you're looking for healthy... lol. They also have some killer milkshakes. There's also a place across the street from the cookout that's a step above your normal fast food places that is pretty good too.
One thing to keep in mind is that the OSR's (the people you'll be dealing a LOT with during orientation) might come across as kind of hard-##### at first, but they have to be, especially with a lot of the riff-raff that shows up on the first day. Be respectful, turn your cell phone off, be on time and just don't be a tool and you'll be fine. You'll quickly realize that there are a lot of great people there that, as long as you show them you're up for doing your best, will help you get off to a good start.

Thanks for the information to all. Very Helpful! Looking forward to starting my new career.

If anyone else has a story or experience from Orientation feel free to tell. -
Orientation wasn't a big deal at all. You really gotta be awful to not make it through, and I mean AWFUL. Either you can't figure out which way to turn the steering wheel when you're backing up, even after 5 straight days of practicing the same exact backing procedure, or you can't grab a gear to save your life when you're driving. Aside from that it takes a lot to not make it through.
SippingDiesel Thanks this. -
I'm in orientation right now out of green bay Wisconsin. Cold as ####. But all the tests are open book. U would have to be a special type of genius to fail. ##### so easy I stopped paying attention. Lol. But learn how to button hook good and double up or down shift good they complain about that a lot. Everything else is pretty straight forward

Does anyone know if Schneider offers regional or intermodal opportunities to newbies? I'm also curious if no one minds sharing what trucking schools you may have went to prior to getting on at Schneider.

Intermodal out of Charlotte, NO, regional Yes! the only place to do intermodal as a rookie within SNI is out of Chicago. Since I spent some time as an Instructor at the Charlotte Academy, let me tell you what schools we got the best students out of...By best I mean the best prepared. Charlotte Truck Driver Training, off Hovis Road, any of the Community Colleges. STAY AWAY FROM TRANS TECH on Wilkenson. Conover was not so bad! Feel free to PM with any specific questions.

Thanks so much for the feedback! He is starting at Roadmasters tomorrow. Wish I could PM you, but my posts are still too low. Any suggestions of what companies locally may offer something w/ weekly maybe even daily home time? I know that's hard to come by as a newbie...can you speak to what home time looks like w/ a regional gig out Charlotte w/ SNI?
