In my experience the companies that pay higher starting out have more stingent hiring cirteria, and the expectations WILL BE higher. The training programs
are pretty in depth lasting a couple weeks. "We expect you to know how to drive (shift & backup), we are not driving school.

Training for this company was 3 weeks. Every other company I've worked for was a week. But tankers there's a lot to learn. Paid $12 a hour and we ran 60 hour weeks during training.

Why ask the question now? Shouldn't this have been part of your research before deciding on this career. IMHO.

Apply to ltl companies. Its hard work and some days can be pretty challenging, but you should be able to make half-decent money as a new driver starting out.Last edited: Nov 22, 2018
