thinking of closing my own business and getting a job as a truck driver. I am hearing and reading bits and pieces of news and complaints about new D.O.T. requirements on being overweight. I am under 6 foot and over 300 lbs. no medical problems. What does this mean?

As long as you feel fit and can pass a DOT physical, you will be fine. I'm sure you realize that you're a tad overweight and the Govt in their infinite wisdom wants to meddle even more with our overall health. At the moment there's no Govt mandate but it's coming where drivers will be tested for sleep apnea. They will base it on your BMI and I think the sweet spot is around a factor of 30. You can google search BMI to get further info. It's not certain yet if all drivers will have to be tested and the question is.....who's going to pay for this test and possible treatment. Some companies are already starting to test, but not all.
Good luck.big spot Thanks this. -

SERIOUS SUGGESTION:
Before closing down your business and entering the trucking industry to become a truck driver, you may want to get a hold of a physical fitness trainer and nutritionist who really knows his or her business. Spend anywhere from 6 months to a year plus really trying to bring your weight down, while simultaneously improving your overall health. Not only will you be able to comply with D.O.T. and company standards, but it could ultimately SAVE YOUR LIFE.
Absolute best of luck to you, you can do it!
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!big spot Thanks this.
