well i successfully got my EIN, thanks. do you have a recommendation on where i can do my 2290 online? i've found several sites, but i'm not exactly sure if some of these are what i need to be doing. i was under the impression that all i am doing is paying a heavy vehicle tax, but some of these seem to be guiding me through a different process. i am using TaxExcise.com right now, and it is asking for the "Tax Year and First Month Used". First month what is used? my heavy vehicle? and then underneath it says "Check this box if this is the final return for Form 2290 for this business". final return?

sorry, i probably sound like a clueless moron, and i am when it comes to taxes i suppose. but what is this all about? why can't i just pay my heavy vehicle tax, get a receipt, and be on my way?

i'm considering just going down to the IRS building in the morning so i can make sure this is done properly and they can furnish me with whatever documents i need to satisfy my employer so i can start collecting some ###### paychecks already

okay what i'm really confused by is that this heavy vehicle tax is meant to apply to vehicles "that have a taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more". This is defined as the UNLOADED weight of the vehicle. my truck and empty flatbed certainly do not weigh 55,000 lbs. And when I applied for my EIN one of the questions was whether or not i owned a vehicle that weighed 55k or more, to which i answered No, because i do not.

    what's the deal?

You fill it out based on the gross vehicle weight. The instructions are just trying to explain what an unloaded truck weight is versus GROSS.

so did i screw up my EIN by answering No? the way they worded the question and defined their terms were clearly indicating that i should answer no, since the weight of my vehicle while unloaded is under 55k, and that is how they defined "taxable gross weight of my vehicle"

whatever, it's just poorly worded and poorly explained. i'm just splitting hairs. i just hope it's not a problem that i answered No when getting assigned my EIN

The EIN will not be a problem. Just do the form correct and go forward.

Yes, you will need it, all you need to do is call the IRS, (they'll make you wait for sure) at least 20-30 minutes, but it Worth's, remember to keep that number, you'll need it for the next year, nothing complicated, I did mine on site(IRS building), not sure about online, be prepared for a long lines of people, good luck

I don't do a thing that requires thought. Unless there is $$$ involved. Might peak my interest.
