I carry
6- 20' chains and binders
4 extra 4" straps the trailers have the straps on them ( I hate that but its the way they do it)
suggest 14+ depending on what you haul.
8 2" straps ( run into trailers that only have 10 on them and it sucks when you have a staggered load of lumber
I agree with MrBeast
Straps and chains?

I have 6 - 4"x4"x4' alum angles for strapping down insulation, block, brick, cardboard boxes. I got the snapbinder in the head once, many stitches. We switched to ratchets soon afterwards. I also have roll of tie wire for doors and access panels on equipment that might pop open.

I don't even mess with the snaps any more, not worth the risk. Personally I think they should be outlawed because when they loosen they tend to come all the way undone.roadrover Thanks this.

There needs to be a sticky because I've seen version o this thread at least 10 times in the year I've been posting here.

18 - 4" straps.
4 - 2" straps with hand ratchets
2 - 4" hand ratchets
9 - 3/8 chains. 18'
9 - snap binders. (Safe if used correctly)
2 - ratchet binders. ( very seldom use)roadrover Thanks this. -
Awesome! Thank you, gentleman.

I was not using them correctly and I take full responseability for that. They never seemed to get tight enough without a cheater. The last 7 yrs of my life have been a lot easier with ratchets.

I used to use a cheater and learned a valuable lesson without getting hurt. To get it tighter Now I always hook chain back to itself that way you can make adjustments by the half link instead of a full link only on the binder side. Before I used to hook my chains under the edge of the trailer and only adjustment was a full link on the binder hook.

TMC requirement is
(13) 4" (trailer has 13 winches)
(6) 2" and (6) 2" portable ratchets
(10) chains
(6) ratchet binders
(4) snap binders (can be 8 and 2 depending on driver preference)
That pretty much covers everything. I always had extra 4 inch since some loads damage them. Also A few portable 4 inch arn't a bad idea.roadrover Thanks this. -
Im a light weight guy. There for snaps are hard for me to get tight if using them correctly.
