You know, I kinda questioned my DM when he told us to stay in Memphis til he said move...but then I saw the parking lot that was Birmingham. I laughed a little when we were headed into the panhandle and "shoulda stopped when you could, Stevens" came over the CB, while driving down a road clear of ice. We stopped at a rest area and got the i10 closed message for Florida, took a little nap and the alt route to our fuel stop, delighted to see i10 open for the rest of our trip. Let our DM know it was open, and proceeded on our merry way to Miami, where it is currently 70°. And so humid that my hair has turned into a living beast.
It may sound ####y, but it isnt. We kept very close watch on the conditions, checked in with our DM, kept track of the road ahead, and had safe havens picked out every step of the way. We picked up our load in Dodge City the morning after the storm went through because its easier to follow a storm than to ride it or have it chase you. This storm was crazy, and too many people didnt listen and prepare, but thats frequently the case in the South, because all too often the forecasts are more a crying wolf kinda thing.
Hope y'all doin ok and stayin safe. -
In the Stevens videos they show all these amazing computers and huge flat screens with data flashing across, did they go down to the local Best Buy and film that part?
Emul, I do have an Intel 386 from 1992 if you need an upgrade? -
Flue, good for you! Glad you are using your noggin'. Wish more people did. You did exactly what you should have done.
Now for the hair thing?... no sympathy here...I haven't had hair since 1984.
Golfnut...I never forget to oil it. Right before I wind it up for the night.
Dryver...it's not just the computers. It's the network and servers. I suspect the switch is very old and antiquated. While the local machine processes slow, it would be so much better if they would install a robust switch and terminal server...then our local machine could be a TS 80 and work great.
But they probably have a morbid enjoyment of watching us fall asleep while waiting for the machine to complete it's task. -
Finally off the yard. APU a/c still not fixed. It has not worked for 5 months now. AC5 code, which is a bad fan, I know this because I can see where the fan is hitting the frame, it is warped. 2nd time on the yard, second time I have pointed this out, 2nd time they have "fixed the short" and second time it has still not worked. I asked them if they would just change the fan and was told they will have TK look at it. I asked them to please stamp my clearance form and I would take it to a TK shop my self.
Man I wish people would get off their high horses and quit being so God ###### territorial and work together. I offered to show them how the fan was rubbing and binding, I was told that wasn't necessary, TK could deal with it.

On the bright side, I did get a load going South and West
-
There are certain issues that they have to defer to the manufacturer, whether it be Kenworth, Peterbilt or ThermoKing. It all involves warranty work, so I suspect that's why they said it has to go to TK.
Would have been nice if they had told you months ago, tho. -
9 hours to go sour. Sounds like someone got shafted by dispatch. Maybe Emul can rectify.

I am 71 miles out of Amarillo... the DLD is tomorrow at 1845... When I called him he tried to give me the "I'll just end up having to do another repower"
I was driving on US 83 trying to get as close as I could before my day was done when they sent the original load assignment and did not have anywhere to pull over and acknowledge it before he voided it.
I am seriously pissed off about this. -
And now they have voided my new load and sent me another that delivers on Monday again.
Why not just leave it alone from the beginning and all of our lives are easier? Why does it have to be a dog and pony show?flue Thanks this.
