I remember back in my youth trucks had air horns and we would run along after them pumping our arms so the driver would give us a blast on the horn. My question is why did the trucks have air horns in the first place? Just wondering if there was a reason besides that was what was available. Do any trucks have them now?

Yes a majority of trucks have them now, called the highway horn too, most also have a city horn on the steering wheel, can't tell ya why they have them but I assume because the cabs make it hard to hear outside noise, also because when we have to run a pink light, you wana make #### sure everyone in the intersection knows you can't stop so you're coming throughChinatown and biggare1980 Thank this.

If you've got an on board air compressor, why waste it dumb stuff like brakes when you can have a cool ### airhorn.
cabwrecker, Chinatown and Mr Ed Thank this. -

More air horn than truck, my god, we're going to be rich.

It might sound corny but nothing makes me day more than a kid standing by the road or in the car beside me asking for a honk, so far Ive never turned one down.
bergy, Mr Ed and jdiesel3406 Thank this. -
I do when they're asking for one when I'm at a red traffic light. If I give 'em the honk, some 4 wheeler is going to think I'm being an impatient jerk. Otherwise, I do like to oblige the kids when they ask.

Any pro star drivers catch themselves reaching to pull the air horn only to realize its on the steering wheel?...And by then you end up pressing the #### city horn instead...I hate new these new trucks lol
