Kmac, you are getting caught between interoffice politics, more than one person dispatching the loads, and the simple fact it is slam the closest truck under any load, and fix it later mentality. And then throw in a driver needs to get home, but it was forgotten about, so the scramble began... then another driver refuses to pick up a load, because he does not go to california.... and the load shuffle begins....

And I have been on both sides of your problem, getting bumped off the load, to a crappy load, and being the one who was given the load that was taken away from another driver. The driver that had lost the load was waiting to see who got his load, and wanted to know who I had paid. Nobody was paid, I just had a 660 and was solo so that I could pull that 45,000 lbs of pork to laredo.

Sitting over here at the TA in Dallas waiting on a repower that I was told about with no information. I have drill on Monday and they're eating into my travel time. Ugh.

If a team has issues in the truck, would that be considered interoffice issues or domestic issues? Or does it depend on where they're sitting when the dispute comes up?

<RANT>With all the harping on trip planning it's amazing that Stevens cannot seem to understand the meaning of the phrase "to plan". I'm sitting in Fernly, NV when I should be on my way to Ontario, OR. Why? Because the chain bank is out of chains. Stevens solution so far? Sit there and wait and see if a driver comes in and drops off some. So, since Stevens cannot plan on having enough chains here knowing how many trucks are coming through and knowing that most of the chains picked up here get dropped somewhere else (and they are aware, they told me so), I get to sit not making money. This follows a wonderful two days of classic SNAFU's. First I get to a delivery and am told, that PO was delivered yesterday. Finally get that resolved and my next load I get there, check in, get backed in a door and then am told, there is another driver here with that same pickup number. (not even a Stevens driver). After making a couple of calls, since no one in the office can return a call even when they say they will, I find out that's not our load. So off to San Diego to get this load. Now I sit, once again waiting for a call back that will never happen. Plus, it's Sunday so I cannot even get ahold of anyone who can do something. Oh, and I'm not the only driver sitting here, or so I've been told.</RANT>

Fernley NEVER had chains when I needed them. They were all down the hill. Now if the highway was clear, and there was NO chance of snowfall during the next 8 hours, I just carried on down the hill. Was never checked for chains. Chain banks on paper are a great idea, but the implementation sucks. Second Year, I picked me up a set of cable chains, at the end of my first winter, cheaper then, meets the requirements of must carry chains, threw them in the side box and never had a worry again. No added weight problem, no having to stop to pick up chains I would never use, no fighting with stevens to get chains....

    flue Thanks this.

Their focus is on loads and not drivers. When you aren't late with a load you are not on the radar and if there are lots of trucks in the area then you are further off the radar. It is a large fleet mentality. I am convinced that if you just sit there and make no attempt to contact Stevens it could be Tuesday of next week before they realize. But, it happens all the time with other companies with a comparable fleet size. The smaller companies can't afford for a truck to be stationary for more than a few hours so they are better at communicating and planning. My last company gig was for a fleet of 40 units and I was always aware of my next load a day before unlaoding, sometime sooner.

I heard of a driver that has some chain bags, the kind you buy at the truck stop, full of rocks in his side boxes. He has been checked and he opens the side boxes, shows the bags of 'chains' and gets a pass.(!) Maybe CB BS.

Ontario, CA or Ontario, OR? I'm in OR. I had this similar situation but I ended up sitting for 2 days at the meat patch and never got an explanation. I did get a free truck payment though.

Kmac, it is feb, freight is still slow, and there were more trucks in amarillo than there were loads... so yes the squeaky person got a load, over you, to shut him up.... then you got a load, cancelled, and a slightly better load to shut you up.... It is standard operating procedure in the meat patch, during the lean first quarter.

There is NO explanation for it. It is the way stevens operates, on the mentality of slam a truck under the load and get it moving... somebody else will fix it if needed. Then add in that the grocery outlets changed their orders up to the last minute, which screws up the shipper, and a load gets cancelled, or changed to another carrier. It is mess, and is NOT a priority for stevens to correct. Stevens moves freight to make money from training students.
