Just wanted to introduce myself to the community here. I've always had a lot of respect for all truckers out there and the work they are doing.

My husband has been a trucker for many, many, many years and while he was out on the road, I was working full time and raised our kids. All together we have seven children.:biggrin_25523: Our oldest one just gratuated as a Bachelor of electro/mechanical engeneering and we're very proud of him. All of our kids are doing very well and we're going to be grandparents for the 8th. time coming April.

Whenever I had time, my husband took me along and I admired the work he did. I even got a little jealous now and then when he was out there, while I was stuck at a dead end job. I always wanted to drive a semi myself, but back then, we had to set our priorities.

Surviving on a truckers income with a family can be very challenging. At my last job, I was operating a post office for over three years until my hours where cut from 48 to 2 work hours per week. I put in applications for other opportunities, but wasn't very lucky in finding anything.

Since our kids are grown, my husband and I being apart from each other way too long, and me always wanting to become a trucker myself, I got my CDL A permits with all the indorsements and now I'm going to start in a Technical College Truck driving school in a 10 week program, the end of March.

Needless to say, my husband and I are very excited. The company my husband has been driving for found out about my new career change, and told my husband that they would hire me as a team driver with my husband, as soon as I graduate, with my husband as my trainer. We feel very blessed.

Of course we've heard different comments from our kids. Most of them supportive, others more like:"but who is going to be home, helping me with my laundry when mom is not around"!. Well son, you have to be on your own sooner or later and we've taught you everything you need, to be prepared for life (besides the laundry, but that was only because he was too lazy). Other comments came about my age. I'm going to be 48 years old this year (people tell me I look like I'm 34 :biggrin_25520:).

I don't believe I have to justify my decision of finally being able to do what I've been wanting to do for such a long time to anybody. I'm following my dream as long as I have the chance to do so. I've done my part in being a (most of the time) "single" mom due to my husband being a trucker and now it's time to think about myself as well.

I know that trucking is a very tough job with a lot of responsibility. I am not doing it for the money, I'm doing it because I love driving and I want to be out there doing my part. To now have the opportunity to do all of that with my husband is a blessing.

So wish me luck. If everything goes as planned, I'll be gratuating June 20th. of 2014.

Wishing you all a wonderful day and a safe trip.

    Ducks Thanks this.
