    Hi all -

We're a new O/O running a 7-car carrier in the northeast/mid-Atlantic, and hubs is stuck in western MD with a 2006 FTLNR Century that won't shift out of first gear and an ABS warning that won't go off. We're looking at a 75-mile tow to the Hagerstown Freightliner dealer tomorrow if he can't figure out how to try and reset. We realize this may not solve the problem, but he wants to give that a go first, and this is his first time out in this truck with an issue like this.

Is there anyone who could give him a call and talk him through some troubleshooting?

Any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated!

    Try to disconnect the batteries.

I would say the same, disconnect the batteries. I had a Mack with the eaton fuller auto in it and it would occasionally do this, unhooking the battery would usually reset it.

Nope, he tried that twice. He's got a System Malfunction warning on the dash, and said everything he read seems to be pointing to the ABS.

I believe ABS on an Auto is tied into the transmission. Not 100% but thats what i recall. May be a transmission problem

Yes, it is, and the light came on at the same time as him realizing he couldn't shift out of first. We're just wondering if there's anything he can do to try and reset everything other disconnecting the batteries and pulling/resetting fuses.

Thanks to RevKev (who I can't respond to privately until I've posted 3 more times) for suggesting that he cycle through all the electronics without turning the engine over, but unfortunately that didn't work, either.

He has a feeling it's the ABS sensor, which is behind the brake drum, correct? If so, there's probably nothing he can do until the wrecker gets there tomorrow.

Sounds like the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) is bad.

VSS will also trip the light on the abs system .
