I'm about to start running my own truck. I've been using a postal service for "my place of residence" for a long while. I've got a street address and # there. It suggests an apt not a box number. Does anyone know if this will work for running my trucking company or am I going to have to rent a building? All thoughts and creative ideas appreciated! Thanks!

getting your own authority?? you have to have a physical location, no way around that, because the DOT man WILL be coming by to do a new entrant audit at the physical location address that you provide.

    backupandpush Thanks this.

I wonder if anyone's using the "virtual office" option?

I've heard that one's home address is good enough, but I've not had a home address for a long while. When I'm not driving I winter in Mexico. I've use a postnet address forever. It's a street address with a # at the end which could indicate an apt. As far as a visit from DOT, well that's the big question. Where do I meet them to provide that which they which to see?

I use my home address. And my NESA was conducted at their office. Only thing that came to me was the letter with the date and time.

I also have a PO Box for business mail.

I'm in Ohio. But, I think a virtual address should work. Only thing is the DOT requires your records to be stored at that address (in the event you are in a fatal or near-fatal accident, they can gain access to your records while you're incapacitated). See if they have data storage (physical paperwork, not just scans), that you can keep on site.

Your driver qualification file (DQF), 6 months of logs, IFTA records (trip reports, fuel receipts or other supporting documentation), inspection reports, insurance (must be kept at file at place of business), and your drug testing records.

Hi! You need normal resident address! You can use your own or somebody else, but try to use address at least in state of your CDL. However you can try different state.I know guys who where doing like this. Later you can rent PO box to forward your mail to comfortable place for you.
    Thanks!:biggrin_25519:
