And there's a lot of folks out there that will rationalize anything, figuring they're entitled to something and just take it and not think twice. I expect carguy did at least check out the truck for mechanical problems before dropping the axe.

Well.. fuel and cash limits are just common sense in case the card gets loose. The fuel card I carry has limits, even though I'm the owner. If I need to purchase more, I either log in to comdata and give myself an increase or authorize a comchek with the main card (no limits) that is secure at home.

The funny thing about controls is it cuts both ways. Boss gets a little peace of mind with limits or mileage auditing reducing the risk, driver is also protected since that reduces or eliminates any chance of someone getting the wrong idea.

When I worked big I/T projects I did not want superuser/admin privileges added to my user accounts. The little bit of convenience I sacrificed was well worth the peace of mind that I could never be blamed if a system went TU from something being tampered with.

It is always a good idea to set limits when you have drivers. Even if your drivers are honest, and most are honest, a card could get lost or stolen. I like the idea of limiting fuel by the gallon. The reason being that you know that a driver can burn from 100-125 gallons per day, with normal running. It also makes it easier when their are spikes in fuel prices. But, many set up the amount of purchases to a fixed dollar amount. At $4/gallon, you could set the maximum amount a driver could purchase in a day to $400-500/Day. I also allowed drivers to purchase oil or antifreeze, but set limits. They could only purchase 1 or 2 gallons in a day without authorization. I like the idea of giving a driver some flexibility and feeling somewhat independent, but by setting limits, you can more easily prevent losing too much money to a dishonest driver. I know one owner who used to physically go out and write down the odometer mileage at the end of each round. The driver was well aware of what she was doing and the reason. He was only given enough money to buy enough fuel to do his run. I felt those controls were a little excessive, but she never had a driver to sell fuel.

Hello, I too have my own fuel acct and self imposed limits are a must in todays world[id theft etc].Besides checking oor miles, the driver should have one chance to explain and then told the authorities will be contacted.I get daily fuel reports[when, where, amount].This just isn't working for you and you need to keep a daily eye on this behavior.
