Dont be mad if you have to replace the clutch... i had mine nreak the input shaft and create a pretty good mess. Clutches are cheap.. cost me 12.5k whenit was all said and done.
It felt a little sloppy.... and then boom... i also could have had an imput shaft bearing failure.. get a new 2400 ft/lbs clutch.. (2100?) Dont remember... but get the big one and have them check out the transmittion. Remans are only 4-4.5k and a year warrenty. But you should get 800-1,000k miles.. before major transmittion failure.
How many miles are on the truck?
Told the clutch needs replacing?

I've got 400,000 miles on the truck but clutch was done about 18 months ago. I've got a quote from the shop...he said between $3500-5000 depending when they start taking it apart and see what they're dealing with. He's a pretty trustworthy guy...lots of truckers like him because he's honest compared to a couple other shops in the area. I live in a small oilfield town in Saskatchewan...not a lot of choices when it comes to truck shops though.

I will do it tomorrow for that kind of money. Seems a bit high. Or maybe I should change more. I would caution against running a clutch with a higher rating. A spicer rep told me that will take out the transmission. Due to the clutch dampening rated for a higher torque spec.

Yikes it's not more than $2300 around here for a clutch installed. But I guess it's all about location

Yeah it sounded a little pricey to me but it's an oil town. Everything is expensive here unfortunately.

In wisconsin where i go its 2500-3k. In iowa where i broke down the clutch was about the same.
Mile 201 on 80 in iowa... excellent shop just south of the truck stop!! Excellent guys! -
Wow, I had my clutch replaced last year for $1700.00

Just to update. The clutch did have a broken spring so it's getting replaced. Unfortunately the tranny inspection did not go well and he showed the inside of the gearbox to me so I'm putting a reman HD transmission and HD clutch in as well. Also...got the rear seal done as it was seeping, motor mounts and 2 ujoints. Figured it was cheaper to do it all now...including the tranny. It was already out so no extra labor really.
I knew the transmission was gonna need to be done but I was hoping to get another year out of it but no such luck. Oh well...that's the way she goes sometimes.
Anyway...thanks for the help guys. Maybe one day I'll be knowledgable enough to pay it forward.
baha Thanks this. -
