Hi. I'm new to the forum here. I run a small fleet of five class 6 trucks and am looking into simple "black box" GPS trackers to help with my IFTA reporting. Would anyone be able to recommend a provider? I've looked into Linxup and FieldLogix, but it's tough to tell how their products will fair in the real world.
Thank you,
Adam

Are you looking for an EOBR or just mileage reporting?

in either 2014 or 2015 if you run in the USA you'll be required to have an EOBR. I've worked with both Qualcomm and PeopleNet, both have a reasonable product that will give you more than IFTA reporting and meet FMSCA requirement. With that said I would't recommend either product. Once the sale is complete good luck receiving quality customer service. We were never able to get Qualcomm to give us correct IFTA information. A little over a year ago we switched to PeopleNet to date their IFTA capabilities haven't came close to our expectations or what they sold us. There's a company in Atlanta, GA., sorry I can't find their information, that offers a black box, one cable and an Antenna. Thirty minute install and your in business. Very low up front cost perfect for a small fleet.
Good luck. Stay away from PeopleNet and Qualcomm. -
Any follow-up on this - any recommendations for a good hard wired GPS tracker that can provide live GPS info to truck owner plus IFTA reporting?

It uses three wires to the black box unit (about the size of a pack of cigarettes.) One to red (12 volts constant) one to black (any good grounding point) and one to the ignition sense. It pings the truck once every 5 minutes (or instantly if when you click online to ping the truck) for the $24.95 monthly price and provides your live tracking and IFTA mileage reports. No equipment costs.daytonaoh Thanks this. -
We've been using a device from a local provider that is supplied by NetworkFleet (Verizon). In 2-1/2 years it has been mostly trouble-free.

That sounds like a very reasonable price. Do you remember the local provider's name? I contacted Verizon's reseller for that same program and was quoted $42/month/truck.
