ours stays attached to the trailer I hate as they can be next to impossible to get off the roller next load but hey company wants them left on and I don't have extra room in side box so what the heck. I do saturate them with salt water with a spray bottle if I know I will have the trailer all week helps keep them from freezing so bad.

I just try to use chains at all times
Or at least stay down south where I don't have to worry about them freezing. Although these last couple of weeks have been testing my theory!

spray them with winter washer fluid

I take a 5 gal. bucket, stack the rolled up straps in and fill the bucket with R V anti freeze.
let them soak for awhile, seems to work.
one of those little propane torch's work great for thawing straps out on the winches.Macneil Thanks this. -
Leave them on the winches and crank them down as tight as you can. Wrings most of the water out, only time we ever took the straps off was to replace them.
-
Then you would always be throwing the hook end of the strap. I go to a few places that will not allow this and could be dangerous loading beside someone else loading.
But interesting idea of wringing out the strap. -
I always just let them freeze then beet the heck out of um with a winch bar prior to throwing. I always had enoguht that i could rotate the worst ones out untill i got to warmer area. Watch out though, if they stay wet to long, they somtimes loose strenth. i know guys who put um in a small toat under the pasenger foot heat. int he toat water wont wresch floor

I just take mine off and run without them , put em back on when it dries out
-
You take them off the truck and run without straps for the winter? So you must limit your loads to chain loads?
-
I think that went over your head.MJ1657 Thanks this.
