They have a 10 point safety deduction system.
    Don't get a scratched headlight housing, that's 2 points
Don't get the paint scratched, that's 2 points

They will keep track of every little thing and point you to death.

    Huh??

When I drove for Marten you had to have at least a year of driving experience to get hired.

I made decent money driving for Marten and they have good equipment. They are nit-picky. Don't drive in to a terminal with a tire below 70 PSI or they'll send you packing.

I'm not familiar with the 10 point system.

Ask the safety people at Marten. They will tell you its in the driver handbook.
You look in the divers handbook and guess what its not there.

    Maybe Sammy6969 can explain.

I can only assume by your post you accumulated 4 points with Marten. My time with Marten I didn't scratch anything. What the heck kind of driving are you doing drive-aahh that you are scratching up equipment that isn't yours.

I was with Marten back in 2006 and I had a blast then, yea it had its ups and downs, but it was more ups than downs. I'm sure things have changed, but most of you drivers out there are idiots anyways, so it doesn't surprise me why the industry is as bad as it is all over.

First off I didn't scratch the equipment i'm not that stupid. All the things that occurred to me while i worked for them work was damage caused by other drivers at truck stops and customers. I did as i was supposed to do and reported all incidents. Marten safety held me responsible for these things.
But as you point out this industry has ups and downs. Even thought I had this happen I still had a good time working with them.

I worked for them for 10 months. they take out a 3 cent per diem out of your check. So if they say you are hired at 39 cpm, you're really making 36 cpm. I worked for them in 09 out of Ontario,Ca. I liked their trucks, the apu and the 2500 watt thermo king inverter in the truck. Made it easy for me to be self sufficient and not have to eat at the expensive truck stops. I saved $8000 in 7 months there. My gripe with them is my hometime. Had I known that they would get me home 4 to 5 days after my hometime request (and weekly reminder to them) I would have not planned anything with family. I had a situation with them in request for my hometime on my mothers 65th birthday. I requested hometime 2 days early to give myself a cushion. I put in my hometime on the macro as soon as i got back in my truck from my previous hometime. I reminded them at the 2 week mark of my hometime request. I emphasized the importance of being there for my mothers birthday. On the day of my hometime, they couldn't get me there on time. The same day my mother had a mild heart attack and asked if I would pick her up from the hospital in a couple days (on her birthday).

I told my DM of the situation and gave him the hospital phone and room number so he could confirm this, yet he didn't really care and I got there 2 days later. 4 days after my initial hometime request....This happened 4 more times...4 to 5 days later than my hometime request. I then had Jury duty and it was my final warning. I faxed over the summons to my DM and he got me there on time, the night before jury duty.
needless to say, I didn't go back. I quit them

I recommended them to another driver and warned them about the hometime. He also had a bad experience with them and apparantely the company has gotten worse.
Just my story...They have sent me letters wanting me to go back. ###### Them..... I work for Ruan now and I'm getter paid, I'm home everyday.....Look for a job that gets you home everyday... The pay is better!

That's a shame. There used to be a waiting list to get on with them at one time. Sounds like Randy Marten's lack of desire to run the company is showing. Too bad he hired a former Kight executive to run the company for him while he goes off on vacation. (At least that's what I was told by several long time employees in Mondovi, WI).
