I'm looking into attending an accredited cdl training school and hopefully getting a job with either a tanker or flatbed company.
I have a few things on my driving record and work history that I am worried about though.
I have a DUI from 2001 so I think it's ok being that long ago but not sure.
I have one speeding ticket 11-15 over from a year ago.
two other speeding tickets over three and four years ago.
The companies I'm interested in are:
TMC
Maverick
Roehl
Sunoco
Gemini/loves
Groendyke
Schneider
United Petroleum Transports
A&R transport
Trimac
Thanks for your help everybody! This forum has been very useful so far

Its not how many jobs you had or how long you worked at them that's the issue, its long breaks in between the jobs that's the problem. If you didn't have long term unemployment in between your jobs in the last 3 years you will be fine. Now job hopping once you get in the industry looks bad on your record.
As far as your DUI its over 10 years most companies I have seen recruiters for have said not 1 in last 3 years and no more than 2 in lifetime.
Speeding tickets are similar they don't like 15 mph over that's a no no and cant have more than3 in 3 years.
Now I have little experience with this as I am just a student and I may be wrong but I have been doing a lot of apps recently and this has been my experience thus farRonnieMac and Wooly Rhino Thank this. -
First thing. Edit your profile to add your location. It saves time.
You are going to get folks who are going to jump on you for the DUI. It is over 10 years so it shouldn't be a problem. Then you are going to get folks who are going to jump on you for speeding. That is a problem. Most of the trucking companies that will hire newbies will put you in a truck that make speeding difficult. Governed at 62 and such. But speeding is a very dangerous thing to do in a truck.
I-70 West of Kansas City, KS at the I-435 interchange is a very good example of what I am talking about. Swift has a large terminal south of there. The ramps say 30 miles per hour. You should take it at 20. Many times I go by there and there are multiple trucks on their sides.
The companies you listed are mostly alike. Once Chinatown sees where you are he will provide you will better choices. Until you get your speeding habit under control, I would avoid hauling liquid haz mat.
Be careful.RonnieMac Thanks this. -
Please put where you are from! It makes it much easier, I promise Only Chinatown and I will show up for dinner and to play with your puppy, No one else would care where you are!
What he said with the addition of the fact that you will be tested for drug usage and any other illegal thing, job jumping is an issue, Don't do it here, But if you have large gaps in your employment you may need a notarized letter from folks that knew your where abouts and also that you were not acting in any other way then locating a job. I went into my own businesses every time I had a gap, It worked out perfectly. I have the eIN and all of that to prove that I was in business for myself. No I was not selling a weed or any type of powder! -
May be difficult getting on with Trimac or A&R. Keep looking and making adjustments until you start the application process:

Although I did speed a lot in my personal vehicle it was a sports car so it's made to handle that, not saying it was smart to speed but I wasn't in a truck doing it. I know better than to drive fast in a truck.... I drove an old cabover pulling a tank off road for two years when I was 19 so even with that limited experience I know how hard it is to stop a moving truck. Plus my dad was an o/o for 20 years so I have grew up around trucking. I just want to get hired and be a good safe employee.
Thank you -
A drug test isn't a problem, I don't use drugs.... don't even smoke or drink

Apply do not omit any info to the recruiter, it's there job to sort it out, also if they find something on there own, you maybe a long way from home at orientation, and they find it, if they knew it would be not big deal, but when you surprise then you need a way home.
It is normal at orientation to loose 1/2 to 3/4 off the group for tickets, duo's, or accidents they failed to disclose. This stuff takes off more than test drives.....
Good luck. Welcome to trucking.Last edited by a moderator: Apr 19, 2014
