Please keep us posted on what you do, and over the long term, how this is going for you?

I don't have any advice, but I wish you good luck in your new business!

I would not be buying a new truck, go for a good used truck, you can get into a good used truck for 85-90K and keep your payments just under $2000.00, you say you will be grossing $26,000 a month, how many days a week are you working to do that? As for your pump, if you are paying $20,000 for that, you are getting hosed, you can get a good pump for $8,000 installed. Shop around, don't take the first pump or truck that you see, I've seen so many o/o's go broke or continually change companies after 3 months, because they came on with a new truck and couldn't meet the payments or they were always down for warranty problems. Who is the company that you are getting on with if you don't mind my asking?

I'm curious to know where I can get a T&E Pump installed for $8000!?! The unit itself is about $5000. Hoses are $550ish, the tray, and thats for direct drive. What about if you run off hydraulics?
I'd appreciate knowing where I can get this fantastic pricing.
In addition, when you're purchasing a used truck, ensure that you leave yourself $1000/month for unexpected maintenance.

That's not a terribly bad idea to set aside money with brand new iron either. At least from my experience. :)

It's going all right I guess. It is a lot harder than I thought in the beginning. I haven't had any accidents of any type, nothing like that, but there sure are a lot of unexpected bills. Have to work hard to try and get ahead. Then because of that hard to find time to do all of the other things like books, appointments, maintenance and whatever other could/should do stuff.

It seems anytime you hire someone whether it be a mechanic or accountant. They just want to rip you off. Fix this... 35 mins... fix this 20 mins. 1 hour right? nope 2. phone call to tell you to pick this up.. 2 mins. charge half hour. And then to top it off, think they go the extra mile? nope not even done right. Then the gov comes along with its hand out. we'll take this, we want this. fees for this and that, wcb, remittance, gst, registration and all their mail telling you what to do all the time, deadlines, and making everything as confusing as possible. Go to work.. gotta please everyone and be an upstanding guy. Work till you pass out. wake up early. On the road, snow, retarded four wheelers, retarded truck drivers, accidents, ambulances. Little white pickups and SUVs trying to ticket you for anything they can. Even if its something as stupid as forgetting a line in the endless pile of paperwork they want you to fill out. or just generally harassing you and looking down their noses. Company games, forgetting to pay this or that, seniority, guys trying to scoop you you. Giant moose with a mowhawk..... okay I made that part up.

I'm doing great. lol. I'm working hard, and things are looking up.

Ya know guys, I'm not too sure yet how the Mack is holding up. As far as the emissions stuff - I had the DEF pump break. They said it was just a lemon. Warranty.

Fan hub was leaking. replaced. warranty.

I ran my truck side by side with a 525 cummins (kenworth/auto shift), fueling up at opposing pumps etc. We were pretty close most of the time with me saving about 3-5%. Once I used a few litres more. Same power on hills, maybe 3-5% more for him. At the end of the day it didn't make much difference. We both didn't have much for down time. However there are some 09 petes with cats and whatnot that we blow away on fuel. saving 15% or so - but yes a lot more power.

One thing that is driving me up the wall with this Mack is the constant getting rocks in the brakes and tires. Which happens to me more than the others. Terrible screeching sounds.

Only time will tell I guess. I suspect the T800's will be handling the years much better. So I'd say good so far, but not exceptional.

    Cat sdp Thanks this.
