Well, I'm not to good at this. I'm just going to give you a break down of my experience with Werner....Werner Cares...

Started my way down to the Allentown, PA Terminal. You know nothing like being hired on by your first company. Did lots and lots of Research and figured I'd put everything I was hearing about Werner to the side and experience it for myself.
Got to the Quality In hotel about 5-10 miles away from the terminal where I met my Room mate. Was a cool guy, actually he ended up being from two towns over from where I live so I was happy. Monday comes and its time for the orientation. Starts out with videos, introductions, and paperwork. Physical. Let's talk about the physical. So I'm waiting in line and I'm called in everything good until I get to my blood pressure. Never had high blood pressure in my life and I get a reading just good enough for a 3 month card, not to mention the "Doctor" or "Nurse" took it one time and that's it. The guy before me was an average looking guy and I heard her say "oh your just nervous. So im assuming his was high, later to find out he got a 2 year card. So back to the story.
After completing orientation and being in Allentown where just about no one wants to work. They all just sit around and collect pay checks for basically nothing We were all told we were getting put in rental cars and we were going to Springfield OH. Was shocked because I guess there wasn't any trainers at the time but whatever were trying to get started so we can get our own rig. Got to OH, luckily my room mate came here with me because half the group was sent to INDY. Took 2 days to get a trainer. The best part of this whole entire experience was actually being with my trainer. He was a laid back guy/owner operator that did all 48 states so it was a great time and he taught me a lot, no bull ####. after being with him for 6 weeks I received the highest scores you could get on your training paper by getting all 3's and we were basically running teams the entire time after my evaluation and curfew were off so I could drive after midnight-6am. Turns out thanksgiving is right around the corner and he's going home for a week. I figured I would go home and be with my family for couple days because being out 6 weeks in a row isn't bad but you want to be home on thanksgiving and not stuck in California at the terminal for a week. So this is when #### started to hit the fan. Called my SDM aka Student driver manager when he basically after beating around the bush told me there is nothing he could do for me because we were in Salt Lake City and all they cared about was getting my trainer home for his home time(I live in MA) Well, I told my SDM basically I dont give a crap about what he says im off this truck for him to sign me off this truck and I'm taking a flight home and will be home for 3 days and to be back in Allentown for my next trainer to finish up my 75 hours that I had left. He didnt like that but he did it so whatever.

After thanksgiving I returned to The worse terminal in the entire company Allentown nothing had changed, and luckily I didn't actually have to go to the terminal. Waited 2 days and my new trainer was there. Another really cool guy, owner op doing a dedicated runway GA to NJ back and forth. Finished my hours got dropped back off where once again I received the highest marks you can get for your training all "3's" Took a day and a half to get my truck Peterbilt 387 Wide Body beautiful truck couple dings and scratches nothing major nice truck with an APU that worked I was excited like it was Christmas in November. Well took a day to get a load to take me to CT where I would be doing a dedicated dollar tree account. Worst experience in my life might I ad. First of all you need a rack on the back for your roll containers. So you have to slide your fifth wheel all the way back so basically if your heavy you're illegal one way or another. Good thing in the north east basically all the scales are closed in the winter so I lucked out there. Then on top of that they're paying 100 bucks to touch every box of freight and unload the trailer by hand which absolutely is TERRIBLE. I could do it but finally I just said F*** this I didn't get my CDL for this Nonsense. Especially when your unloading 250 cases of 3x3 1 gallon jugs of water. Finally got switched out. not to mention before that I made a whopping 5-600 a week. NOT the $1,200 guaranteed by the recruiter and not even close to the 50K a year guaranteed by the recruiter but that's what happens when you get into this industry as a greenhorn....you believe everything you hear. But now I know if its to good to be true...sounds to good its defiantly is!! You get .46 cents a mile that's true. You don't even get close to the 1700 miles a week guaranteed.
After getting off that account I like to drive so I went on the drivers choice 3 weeks out, 3 days home everything east of Omaha, NE. Figured I can drive so ill make up the money in miles. First week 350 bucks take home. second week 275 take home. third week 250 take home. fourth week 200 take home. Kept getting terrible miles, and Werner pays zip code to zip code so a few of my runs I was in Columbus Ohio where I picked up at a drop yard and delivered in the same zip code so I had 0 loaded miles. This all happened to me when I didn't have not one late load. So Now I'm due to Allentown for a physical because my 3 month card is up and I get back and my blood pressure is the highest its ever been and I cant get a medical card so im put on medical leave. Werner doesnt pay for medical leave home time so haven't made any money in the past 3 weeks but being home with my family is a plus so whatever. But the kicker and the biggest problem out of all this is I've now been to TWO doctors and don't have high blood pressure. my two readings from two different doctors have been 136/76 125/80. I'm actually glad im done with them and moving on but I needed to get my experience for a company to take me on. So I figured I'd get my experience in a nut shell and hope if you can get hired on by a different company other then these guys go there.....SERIOUSLY!!! If you dont believe me about the blood pressure i'll post the doctors notes I have from both to prove it!!

    hold on here

shoot i cant get it up there

The first one is from the nurse at the doctors office. I was all ready to get on Meds and get back to work and just do whatever it took. Then the second reading is from the doctor who took it 8x in a row and it was the same. He said "Cant put you on anything cause you dont have high blood pressure." Come back on a later date in a week or so. I'll get that picture up as well.

Then I go back a week later dont even care if you see my name or birth date, and its 134/76.......

I get blood pressure spikes at the doc's office too, my doctor usually refers to it as "white coat syndrome". Best thing I can say is keep the weight down as much as possible because the DOT is really getting serious about the BMI/sleep apnea stuff.

Just had my Recertification Physical yesterday...blood pressure was 146/95 the first time, they said relax and we'll take it again in a bit. Second time was 145/96---they said we'll try again last thing before you leave. Third time they did it, and then re-pumped to do it again...and I asked if their was any law stating they need to test the left arm, and asked if they could try the right. They said yah, we can try the right. First try on the right arm was right at 140/90 (which is the cut off for 2 years)---I said "there you go...write it down", it was NOT falsifying the document, two nurses witnessed the reading, and o.k.'d it with the Doctor that did the Physical.

I also took a 45 minute Agilities test right after that, hooked to a Pulse/Blood pressure monitor, and my pulse never acceded 109 (regardless of the exercise/activity) and blood pressure never acceded that 140/90.
I am 6'2" and 240lbs. and smoke a pack a day for the past 32 years---so I am not the "appitamy" of health...but I DO know the perimeters. Don't drink caffeine, or eat fatty foods, or smoke right before a Physical.

So, the moral of the story is: Werner will give you high blood pressure.

Yah learned that one for myself about 5 years ago.

Get 6 months in and find something better driver.

I am currently with Werner now and I like it... for the record, even if you pick up and deliver in the same zip code you get paid.. on a load like that, it is probably miles, which are few and then whatever load pay...
You can't blame Werner for your blood pressure being high.. I am in great shape, and my blood pressure has not gone up while working at Werner... part of the job is talking and negotiating with people.. you should of asked for another blood pressure to be taken if you felt the first one was in accurate..

Also, when you are in training, and your trainer goes home, you are often put in a hotel wherever you are... it more than likely will be miles and miles away from your home and family.. I had to stay in a hotel for a couple of days near the terminal just 45 minutes from my home.. but, I did it because I had to to get paid for thoes days.. if zi had gone home, I would of not gotten paid for those two days, I also would forfiet my first delivery bonus.. so, I just did the mature and responsible thing and stayed at the hotel.. Which, I am glad, because I got another trainer soon and was on the truck to finish my training.. even though there were others who had been waiting for longer and were still waiting when I left...

Look, playing victim won't pay your bills, you have to step up and stand up and make your own success at any company.. all any company can offer you is a chance... it won't be handed to you and they will give you opportunity to screw up or off if that is what you want...

For me, I can't afford that.. I have a home, a family and responsibilities.. so, I have to make the most of it and do what I need to do to be successful..

look, this is a tough job and a tough industry.. if you can't manage the simple stuff, like a medical card, then you are gonna fall on your face out on the road where it gets tougher.. and crying, whining and posting how bad you have it won't help..

I am just putting it to you like it is... if you can stand up to a doctor or nurse and get a second or even third blood pressure reading.. you won't be able to deal with shippers, lumpers, other drivers and the like... trust me, that nurse was nothing compared to a lumper trying to over charge you and pretending like they speak little english...

Now whatever company you chose.. it is you that will be a big denominator in your success or failure...

That's great that you're making it a Werner. I'm actually glad to hear that. I'm not a biased man, The truck I had was very good, and they always fixed it no questions asked when there was maitneced needed. They are good on safety but that's all I can say they are good at doing...no ########. I did stay at Werner for 5 months before I stopped working there. I was going to stop working there regardless if my blood pressure was high or not which it's not. For one, my truck was locked down once I failed my blood pressure with a "Lock" put on the air knobs and was given to the next man in line. I tried to "Make it work" but for one I'm not going to stay at a company that has 7,000 drivers, especially after all the lying. You are right this industry is nothing but challenges, but don't think for one second that I didn't try to make it work. After receiving 3-4 $200-250 dollar pay checks 4 weeks straight and not to menton the 3-400 dollar ones for the dedicated account I decided that I could probably find a company that I could get into locally and not have the headaches and the pressure of the bank calling me while I'm 1-3k miles away asking when I'm going to be able to make my next payment. I have already been offered 2 jobs since being home and I'm willing to make a decision soon on what I want to do. Maybe I should get in depth more on every little thing that actually happened to me while being at Werner. I'm still on 30 day leave but why should I go back? I already wasted enough time and sacrificed enough time trying to make it "work" at that #### hole. Ever hear of the saying "fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me?" exactly tried two different accounts and both were nothing but lies, and didnt work out at all. I can't sit here and say that if I "Kept Trying" that things would have looked up. I did my best every day to do whatever I could. Running Recap, Never a Late load, Never Complaining, nothing and that is where it got me. Getting my truck "Given away" not even more then 3 hours of waiting for my GF to pick me up. They wouldn't give me the time of day to see my doctor that was 4 days later from my last medical examination. After being talked into Per-Diem even knowing I didnt want it I tried to get off of it this january but "Because I didn't get off of it on the 1st I wouldn't be able to get off of it until next year. That's what I call shady. Never recieving a "Pre-Assigned Load." Having a "Cat-Eye" Camera in the front of my truck looking out the windows monitoring my every move. Last pay check still haven't been paid from columbus, OH to the terminal in Allentown,PA "They haven't received anything on that load yet." Not being reimbursed for the airline ticket up to as much as the bus ticket that would have cost me. Being hung up on and treated like an animal while talking to people in NE and actually laughed at when talking to dispatchers on the phone about the situation that is at hand. Giving them my personal employee number, and social security number and still being told they cant talk to me on the phone because they "Don't know if it's really me." That I need to "Come down to a terminal." Sorry but I'm just tired of the head games that #### holes is all about. Do I really need to mention every little thing that the company has done or given me the run around. some companies work out for other people I guess. Maybe I got lost in the cracks, I don't know. I have a family too, I have a 3 year old son, and I'm not going to stay out and make peanuts while he's asking me when I'm going to be home, or where I'm at. I could go down to burger king and be home every night and make just as much money flipping burgers. My goal was never to stay at a bottom feeder but to only get enough experience where I can get looked at or accepted onto a local company. Don't question my ambition or my desire to make this work for one minute. As a student I was running 3-463 miles a day with my trainer I thought maybe I would get the same treatment with them once I got my Truck but I was very wrong. Maybe I should have "Leased" on after 90 days of solo.....YEA RIGHT. There are plenty of companies and better opportunity out there other than Werner Enterprises and that's all I have to say about that.

I wouldn't be surprised if your blood pressure really goes up when you get over to the terminal in Allentown?

sounds like the OP doesnt want to work and just wants to sit in his duff and do nothing and get paid for it.

if you want to make money you need to sign up for team driving. they will work you so much and give you all the miles you want. plus there's a $7500 sign on bonus (split between 2 drivers). but dont count on getting home much. the more you run the more they make so they will keep you out months at a time.

nothing is free in this world. you gotta take the good with the bad.

you made an enemy out of your SDM by telling him what you were gonna do instead of following his directions. you are an EMPLOYEE, you dont call the shots. thats called insubordination. thats most likely why you got less and less miles. those who dont want to work and fight everything at every turn and skiff on a job will get the crappy end of the stick until you give up and quit.

the problem is not Werner, its the man in the mirror and his attitude. reading your post...your attitude sucks. its the me, me, me, I, I, I attitude. no one will do anything for you.

this may not be the career for you. so you might wanna go get a job making $9 an hour at the movie theatre taking people tickets, because it sounds like thats about all you are cutout for.
