Wisconsin CDL Academy

Their official name is the WI CDL School, but if you call the number, it's still RDTC. On some of the paper work it's WI CDL, some is RDTC. They are moving toward WI CDL, just slowly working on phasing it in.

My students have been telling me they have to do an onset back now, and an alley back. No 45. Kind of odd nobody has been telling us trainers we should be working with them on these maneuvers.

What I find odd is that most states (let's say TN, since that's where I'm from) has you take the cdl road/skills test in the type of equipment that you'll be operating. However, during most cdl school training they mostly use a van trailer.

I'm going flatbed, so as nice as it would be to receive more training in van, it's just odd that you get no flatbed experience before you go out with a trainer. At least the van/reefer guys get that extra 3 weeks of hauling their trailer type around before they go to their trainer. Just my opinion.....which could be distorted since I drove straight through to get here today<-----disclaimer

 

Meh.. Who needs experience pulling a skateboard? Not like you'll ever back the thing up anyway..

 

I beg to differ, some of the places they want us skate boarders to back into are friggen rediculus. Though the 10 1 spread makes it a tad bit easier to controll. You havent lived till you had a D9 dozer drag you out of a jobsite due to where they wanted you to back into.

Good thing you put the smiley at the end; I realize you're just yanking our chain. FWIW, I've backed up many many times into indoor slot-type docks that are just a couple inches wider than the trailer, where they drive farm machinery out on the sides of the dock straddling the flatbed trailer. And it's even more fun with a spread-axle trailer that can't turn on a dime like you van guys can. At least not without ripping the trailer tires sideways off their rims.

I too wish I'd gotten some experience pulling and backing a flatbed trailer while at RDTC, but it worked out. It largely depends on how many students in the class are going for flatbed vs. van; in my class it was 5 vanners and me. They do have a flatbed training trailer there.

 

I spoke to recruiter today. I was told of these changes that MAY go into affect now that is Wisconsin CDL school instead of RDTC. I was told that there is a pretty good chance of these changes going into affect. The hotel will be covered for students traveling in. You would get your own room. The tuition is increased to $3200.00 There would be no credit approval required to attend school. Also, the required mileage will go away and be replaced with a one year employment deal to consider tuition re-payed. The cost of drivers test goes has been increased by state of Wisconsin from $85.00 tp $150.00
