Before I went to Interstate, I had also heard nothing but good about them. That was why I went there to drive. BUT after getting there, I got off on a bad foot due to the DM (driver manager/dispatcher) that I had. He had an attitude about the drivers he was assigned that day.... all of which had been owner operator's prior to applying there and taking the job. I think that is a crying shame, because they USE to be one of the best in the business.... amazing how just one person can ruin the opinion of a company isn't it?

But the story get's better, I even went as far as to call, as I was not in the terminal at the time, one of the owners of the company (he was on the driver retention board) and spoke to him reguarding the problem's with the truck and the fact that I was having problems out of my dispatcher/DM.

His comment reguarding the truck problem was that we will get it in the shop at the next terminal, which was almost a day away. Ok no big deal, I just burnt up for that day!!! The A/C was out and blowing nothing but hot air!!!

With reguards to the problem with my driver manager, he said I would have to work that out with him.... SO I TRIED TO!!! Needless to say, it did no good. He just made it so I did not have many miles to no miles the rest of the time I was on his board.

But anyway's, as I have said before, if you are thinking about IDC... you may want to rethink things or hope and pray you get a good driver manager... which there are very few left there anymore.

  4. :biggrin_2559: Was in the VERY same spot with them! Had the A/C line go out in my rig. Stopped to try and get er fixed, or hand the load off to another truck.... Bit the bullet when no other trucks were able to run it and went.... Told DM in the morning bout the problem... Oh, boy! He started lecturing about how A/C is OPTIONAL.... Replied to him "Uh, in TACOMA A/C is optional.. As my thermometer only goes to 120degF, I don't KNOW how hot it was in this truck, but doing 70mph with the windows down, it chills to a cool 110deg. You DO know that people die under those conditions, right?"
IDC has gone downhill in a major way. Like others, I hired on with them based on their reputation. At first I was content, but in the 2 years I drove for them, things changed drastically. Economic reality being one thing, these guys routinely put a few $ over the health and safety of their drivers.

We actually worked for IDC twice. The first time around we worked with them for a year. And we were pretty happy, we got good miles, good pay, truck started giving us problems but no biggie and we knew which terminal to NOT go to (Fontana, god that place sucked!!).

Well, we live in Joplin, MO and it was such a hassle to get us home. We either had to get a load to kansas city and then drive 3 hours to the house, go park at Wal-mart. And we didn't get paid for those miles. So our next dispatch starts off being 170 miles short.. Finally quit because we were in Phoenix, so hubby can see kids and they had no problem with that.. As soo as we got there and had his parents on the way to pick us up, they send us a message saying what are we doing here. We need u to take such and such trailer back to riverside and blah blah blah.. pissed hubby off to no end...

3 months pass.. we go back to work for them because we didn't have that many problems and the ones we had were minor...2nd time around wasn't that great because we only stayed with them for almost 5 months... too many problems with the truck, not enough miles, good long runs, then sit for a day or two, then a short run.. I should mention the first time we pulled reefer and then we pulled dry... It also seems like they don't have that much business in the south part of the country. If they did, they never sent us that way. They kept us on 80, 90, 70 during the winter.. I guess they were taking a chance on us crashing..

Interstate hired too many people too fast. IDC I believe is still a good company. It's just like any company, they all have good points and bad points. Some more than others but ya'll understand...

Now we are in the process of getting back on the road. Hopefully working for Trailiner out of Springfield, MO. If you know of anything about them, let me know

needless to say a week after he arrives at my home interstate fires him for having alcohol in his system even though he was off duty

You can't drink any alcoholic beverages at IDC while under dispatch. Which is from the time you end your hometime to the time you begin your hometime.

my daughter continued to work for them. Her husban (also an interstate local driver) decides to run with her to keep our sweet lil dedicated run. nice for a little wile until she jacknifes the truck in TX. (NOT a bad one and no damage to frieght or people. ( she was a 5 year safe driver!!!) needless to say they fire her

A jackknife without proof of equipment failure is considered unsafe operation of a CMV at IDC. Your safe driving record is a moot point. The insurance company requires them to cut loose anyone who establishes a risk of future claims.

Drivers need to pay attention in orientation and read the employee manual to avoid being surprised by policies that are clearly spelled out in both.

I went to IDC as a solo because I had heard nothing but good things about them... Well, I made no money running for them as a solo. IDC paid me .36 cpm and averaged 2000 miles a week. I went to Crete and average 2800-3200 miles per week at .42 cpm. enough said! DRIVE SAFE

Well, as bigblue noted, it was the company's insurance carrier that demanded that particular driver's termination, and the company has no choice but to comply or they lose their coverage, notwithstanding whether or not they might actually want to keep you.
