I'm going to give you a 100% honest review..., from my own experience. Don't take what I say to heart.
I can say that Smith Transport is a good company. They have nice equipment, its not too often that you will be sitting around waiting for a load, good pay and benefits, and there is form of personal connection with the other drivers as well as the pencil pushers/dispatchers/management. As stated before..., Barry Smith does have 100% of his company back and no longer have that bond with USX. You will see Barry Smith a lot. You won't realize it because he one of those guys who blend in. Don't stick out but once you figure out who he is..., you'll spot him quick over at the Roaring Spring terminal. From my memory..., they are still paper logs and their log department don't miss ****. Don't try to cheat your logs because you will get a pretty violation letter in the mail back at home and waiting for you to sign when you get called in. Now they do have their own warehouses..., TONS of Appleton paper loads... You get fuel incentive bonuses, miles per month bonuses. They motivate you to do better. Depending on your experience and timing...you could pick you own truck...
Now for the negatives... So you are the unlucky driver who gets a defective truck..., the shop does take a great deal of time. From my experience it always was between 2-3 days for repairs. If you are one of those drivers that like to eat at every Flying J, TA/Petro, Love's or Ma and Pa's truck stop...naturally you won't make money....common sense. There will be weeks when you get many short runs back to back to back. So like every typical company... You have your good or bad weeks. WATCH WHAT YOU SAY! If you got the balls to talk crap about Barry Smith or the company at the terminals, you are asking for trouble. Either you'll be talking to Barry himself and not know it or be in the driver's lounge running your mouth and don't realize they are listening in on your conversation through the phone.
But overall..., I loved them. Made good money, had a good relationship with my DM and had good home-time. Only reason why I left was for a family emergency. Ill be going back sometime in May or June.kenpojoe07 Thanks this. -
What's Smith Transport starting cpm?

Anyone know anything about the Well Services division?

There are reasons there are unhappy drivers @ Smith. Be mindful of the comments that are made. Smith has mentors. The comments made that they have nice looking equipment is true. The comment that it takes about 3 days to get something repaired is true. You must make an appointment to have it done and when you get there, maybe you still have an appointment and maybe they won't have it marked down. With any luck, the problem might be fixed in that time or they might tell you you need to come back. Yes, they have brand new Pete's but as with anything new, you run the risk of getting a lemon. One of the biggest complaints that I've heard is that you get one good week and 3 either bad or so so weeks.(like 1200 miles. nothing to write home about.) if you don't own a home and are single its a perfect job. Yes, they still have paper logs and trip-packs. Make sure you keep copies because they sometimes are "never received." (even though you got paid for them.) This company has gone through many changes and some are....... oh yes, they do have work with Appleton paper.

Smith starting pay is 35 cpm..depending own your experience you can probably negotiate a few pennies more...Its just depends....I've been here three years I am on dedicated accnt now. Most drivers I know do pretty well. I think the main plus over here is paper logs and they kinda let you do your thing as long as its legal on paper.I am not saying that they force you to run illegal but they(we) capitalize on the benefits of paper logs
Other pros hometime...weekly or bi weekly, trucks are nice( balance of power and torque) and set up to run 68/70 based on fuel mileage..Pretty laid back...The cons...you will see a lot of the Northeast...short runs(but they pay extra) Lotsa top heavy paper loads and getting your truck service can be a headache. But all in all a decent company you can make a living over here def wont get rich lol
