I still run "Loose-Leaf" so, I know what I "can" do in a "situation"...

But for you drivers running ELOGs...

What happens when you you're in a shut-down....I mean like the highway is closed and won't reopen for several hours...

Say you "Post Trip" right where you're parked and a few hours later (Not enough for reset) DOT tells you to move....And where you have to go is say 4 or 5 miles down the road....

How do you log that legally?

You just move whenever a DOT man tells you to

Yep... that's what you do, and when you get to a "safe haven," you get to start your break over again. IMO, you should get the name, organization and badge number of the flatfoot who told you to beat it, and include that in your elog notes.

There is no such thing as a "safe Haven". This is what's I've been told. Just go into violation and hope for the best. On the other hand, a real driver will have assessed the situation before rolling and made the proper decisions whether to roll or not. Sorry. With the smart phone and every other oiece if technology we have there's almost no excuse for "running into a situation".

Well next time I'll take my crystal ball and tarot cards with me together with all the high tech I can muster so that I don't run into a situation. But guess what, I still got stuck in the now infamous Alabama snow storm mess with hundreds of others. In the end I shut down for the day on I-20 just east of Birmingham, and no, I went post trip and went down for my 10 hrs. Wild horses ridden by DOT men weren't going to budge me. Next morning everything worked out just fine. If it happened again I'd do the same thing. The dumb Govt, DOT and FMCSA will just have to eat crow. I'm not going to run around in those kinds of conditions just to suit them. We did the best thing.....stay put. Sometimes common sense prevails. Something that the DOT sadly lacks.

ebors are to the drivers as Obama care is to the nation....some like it, most don't! The last issues just posted, are perfect examples of the failures the ebors impose on the drivers....The only people who like the obors are the politicians, corporate brass, and unknowing people in the position to make policies. If you know how to run a paper log legally, and you get the ebors out of your tractors, than you will increase you income from 25-30% ....Have run them both, can speak from personal experience. Very sorry you drivers have to live with ebors, If you can, either leave the company you are with, lease onto a paper logging company, and contact Iooda....they will tell you the ebors will not be mandated until the federal courts reverse their decision...Vacate e-logs......!!! The "Sorry" president and the congress, in the last highway bill, mandated ebors......yet not implicated because the federal courts still stand in their way....can't mandate!! So....do what you have to do.....give yourselves a raise......!!!!

Same way you should. Legal is legal no matter paper or elogs. If I am required to move after shutting down then I log the move and start from there. If I am in violation for the move then I note the reason for the move in a free form message and call the Log Department right away.

To clarify, there is such as to the term "Safe Haven" however, the term is often misapplied or used incorrectly when it comes to finding a place to park. "Safe Havens" are areas specifically approved for the parking of unattended vehicles with Class 1 (Division) Haz Mat (Explosives)

Under your conditioned question WCP...since you did not have prior knowledge of the road being closed (not due to weather, but due to accident), that would qualify the log for the "emergency time" to complete or get to safe, legal parking. The company's log department can "fix" the issue if the required move was done in the "emergency status", and the driver did stop at the first safe and legal place to stop.
