Maybe your company looks at it that way but my company is buying connies as fast as we can get them built so the drivers don't have to tarp period.

Spyder is right, in Europe they use a type of curtainsider called a euroliner, they are by far the most popular type of trailer due to their sheer versatility , flats are almost non existent anymore, euro liners have an opening roof for top loading , have removable boards inside the curtains for load security so no need to strap every load, you can have them with extendable pillars for extra height to accommodate bigger loads or even have them so they extend out for wider loads, like spyder said you can even have insulated ones so you can run them like a reefer, also lowbed trailers are often fitted with curtainsider bodies, you can haul a machine and back haul dry freight.

considering at my company I'm the ceo, coo, and cfo. Your #### right I look at it that way. As I said when you are the one writing checks tarping aint so bad. A full set of tarps for a grand vs almost 20 grand for a con. Also I might add that "so drivers don't have to tarp" is almost certainly not their motive. Chances are it has was lot more to do with certain customers requiring a con, and the increased revenue and profit they expect to see.CAXPT Thanks this.

However you choose to look at it that's fine. I know why my company is buying them and the justification so I'll just let it go at that.CAXPT Thanks this.

No company makes major financial decisions based on making things easier for employees. You can't honestly believe they would spend hundreds of thousands of dollars JUST to make your life easier.
-
how much do them tarp kits cost?
i could see the justification in speedier tarping, and not having to buy tarps and having them patched.
trucks make more money spinning the wheels then they do sitting still while tarping and untarping. -
I've seen them go for as high as 25 thousand. But you can probably get one for around 17 thousand for a cheaper version and installing yourself. Even so, that pays for a whole lot of patch kits.

I especially love watching people cover in plastic then tarp particle board while I just open and close my connie.

They run doubles here in Australia with Conestoga's doing steel coils. Works well.
