Hello , i badly need advice on this one , what to do guys , need opinions please , should i completely rebuild my 2001 ISX : In-frame+Recon Head+Recon Injectors+New engine Harness + reman Interbrake + air compressor + oil pump for some 20000$ at Cummins with 1 year warranty (the fuel pump/pickup pump ,water pump and the 4 actuators are already new) THE CRANK is not included in warranty.
Or to get a brand New Recon Cummins N14 Redtop 525 with 5 year warranty for 21000$ + some 3200-3500$ for swap .
If i chose to swap with N14 do you guys know any good shop that can do this ? ...Cummins totally Refuse to swap if different engines .
I can order from Cummins the N14 wired exactly for my 2001 truck .
I like my ISX but i also loved in the past my other truck with N14 , i also like the ideea of all new Recon engine with 5 year warranty .
My ISX have 1.2 mill. miles .
TY for your time and help .

Me, I'd save they 14 grand in labor charges and break out my wrenches. The hardest part of rebuilding an engine is lifting the head off.

Ok, guess we have a language barrier. A grand is simply American slang for a thousand dollars.

I'd think hard about the N14 swap. If thats a fully remanned engine from Cummins the block will have been decked back to true. IME the biggest issue with an N14 is the deck getting out of true as the block gets "seasoned." This happens because of the stresses placed on the block from head bolts, etc, combined with heat cycling. You'd be starting with a fully seasoned block thats been trued up during the remann process.

I vote n14 with 5 yr warranty...1 year warranty on overhaul is a crappy deal

If push comes to shove, I like the idea of the N14 reman.

If the difference is that little, I think you need to shop around. Those part prices are way to high. 15 to 17 thousand is easily double what those parts should cost. Sitting in my garage right now is a new head and in-frame kit, bought from detroit, oem parts. Price tag was just a tad under five grand. And while I'm fully aware cummins parts are higher than detroit, there is no way they are ten thousand dollars higher.

His $20K price includes a lot more than inframe kit and a head, and it includes Cummins doing the install on all of it.
