I have a 1999 Classic with 12.7 S60. The problem is at random times (couple times a week or 1 to 2 times a day, it varys) a big drain on the voltage shows on gauge, relay kicks (have yet to figure which one, none overly hot) and engine shuts down like you flipped the key off. The relay resets and kicks again from drain on system. This goes on for about 10 minutes and everything's back to normal. And you can not make the problem show up when my mechanic is around. He did find a corroded fuse holder to computer, but that wouldn't cause electrical drain. No codes showing. Any idea's guys and girls?

good weekend job, follow all wires out of BATT. box to starter looking at all clamps! Starter back to dash wires, might have to take off clamps till you find it before the fire starts?

Im not a mechanic but sounds like computer is shutting off toprotect itself. Would tend to think the voltage regulator in the alternator is sticking .

    macgyver1267 Thanks this.

Good idea, alternator was replaced about six weeks ago. Wires have been traced and only problem found was ground from alternator had insulation rubbed off. Wouldn't cause problem but put hose around it anyway.

My truck did that before and it was the weirdest thing too...it ended up being the boost sensor that i had replaced not too long ago. Any codes?

Ok, turns out the stereo had the 'accessory live wire' shorting against a metal bracket. Was overloading the ignition on relay. Ugh.
