Get a job as Truck Mehanic in USA

You earn as we speak probably way better than any American mechanic...
And have the opportunity to visit many times.
I´ve visited only Scania Garages in Norway thou and from that experience would surely as a worker think twice...

 

Getting a job as a mechanic would be easy enough, dealerships are always looking for more mechanics and there are plenty of Volvo's on the road. First you need a work visa though which will be the tough part. Contact the American embassy/consulate to find out about all the BS its going to take to get here and good luck.

 

In just about every major city theres tons of jobs for experienced mechanics, you'll either need to ship your tools over here, or buy new ones here. Not sure what your tool prices are in Norway, or if the mechanic supplies his own tools, a quality metric set of 12PT 3/8" 10mm-22mm will set you back about $400.00, good single ratchets are generally around $150. Being able to get your ASE certification would be a definite plus.

 

Being things are going to heck here in the USA between the political crap
and a likely 70`s recession looming thanks to the banks I would stay there
if I were you. Also being an X auto mech. ASE is just a BS cert which proves you can past a test. Only good thing is the time requirement.
Usually 2 years exp. I`ve seen back alley mechs with ASE certs.

I`d take someone who KNOWS what there doing which most tech schools
teach bookwork but little to no REAL WORK. Of course I got burned out
after 20 years of it and dealerships wanted to pay dirt since I was taught the OLD way. My father was a Journeymen mech and bodyman, had his own biz and even taught it at a college.

Funny how I make MUCH more moola driving truck and being a cable\sat
installer then I EVER did wrenching. When Anyone ask me what I think I tell them you would be better being a salesman in a shop then a mech.
esp. since all the mech jobs leaving. Ask Anyone who worked building
GM and/or Ford vechicles.

Mechanics in the USA is a DYING trade like electronics (TV/ Computer)
repair is now.
