Hi,
I am the girl friend of a truck driver. I had ridden with him for 4 months too. He goes to the doctor when he is in town and then when he is on the road and he runs out he has to get them refilled. Where does he go? To Wal-Mart. That is my problem. He cannot park his 18-wheeler in Wal-Mart's parking lot. There are so may truck drivers that want to buy supplies and groceries and whatever at Wal-Mart but they do not allow the trucks to park in their lots. That to me is discrimination. Discrimination against truck drivers. Something has to be done and I want to be the one to do it. I want to start something, something to help the truck drivers. I was thinking of going to truck stops with a petition and having drivers sign it. Please help if you know of a way that I may get something done. Truck drivers have the right to go to Wal-Mart and spend their money like all other people. Without truck drivers this world would be nothing.

Unless things have changed I thought Wal-Mart was one of the more truck friendly places around, at least they use to be. But anyway it's private property and I suppose they can regulate what types of vehicles park there if they want. They are also not the only place that sells groceries or perscriptions.

sounds like a new franchise for someone..... pharmacy's at truck-stops that are networked togeather............$$$ what an idea.
-
that would be a great idea, im on a few meds that i can't go without, that was one of my concerns going into this field.

Um, I see alot of trucks in alot of walmarts. Hell, some have lilke 20-30 dedicated spaces for trucks. I have a trucker directory with the locations of walmarts.
google "walmart truck parking" to find interesting articles for and against... and some organizations that are speaking up about it.
Also there is a book called 'the next exit' which lists walmarts. he can always call ahead and find out if they allow trucks to shop (NOT PARK) -
I think I have stumbled onto something here....... I am a diabetic and more and more drivers are having to watch their health issues and take medications these days and prescriptions have to be filled. -
Most walmarts you can take a CMV . There are some walmarts that don't allow this. Usually it has to do with city codes. Walmart in Sunnyvale TX, they have a city ordinance. No CMV's allowed.

The WalMarts in the Midwest region will let semi's park in the wayyyy back parking lot, hubby hasn't had an issue yet when he's had to do it... sometimes WalMart is more convenient than rest stops or truck stops (even though I boycott them regularly, good place to park)

tell him to drive his truck around back and park it then shop. as long as he isnt blocking another driver or anything else. think the managers will give a ####, most likely not.

Yeah this is right on the money. It is the city codes that are to blame, not the company. There may be a very few instances where Wallyworld has banned big rigs on a temporary basis due to problems with their lot, but get real here, they want our money as much as anyone else's.
