Its pretty cool how we all run into each other huh?!?
Well I have George as a trainee now. Very promising and our conversation is stimulating. That helps. Set off for Chicago Sunday night we actually stopped in Covington and took a little sleep break the. i got up and ran at 4am up to OH. Then George ran until we hit the white out in Lafayette IN. So we stopped. Woke up to more snow and black ice on road. We were 80 mi from delivery in Chicago and I gave myself 4hrs. Arrived with 2 min to spare. What a flusterpuck!! Had to blindside around snow mountains, bulldozers, car parked in dock, vans, nuns on skateboards!!you name it. I got it but it took some doing. Dropped our empty at USX Markham and bobtailed to Holland MI. Got a BH load that delivers thurs at 1400 in Denver then a 0500 in Salt Lake City. The load was only 24hrs late getting loaded. Picked it up at 0800 today westward bound!
George is doing very well. We are running supersolo for a while. Tough to teach when you team. If you do teach you dont sleep!!!!!

We got to Denver and got the stop off. Had to set a SuperTrucker straight when he commented about me directing George on his backing to the dock. This Einstein came up to me and said I ought to teach him to open his doors before he backs in so he doesnt block other trucks. I smiled looked at him condescendingly and asked him if he does that for roll-up doors? Told him to go away and he did. He was directly behind the trailer for 5 minutes. What a mutt! George did fine and is getting better with each backing maneuver he does.
Anyway were stuck in Cheyenne after a talk with Scott and Tim. I25 & I80 both restricted due to 50+mph winds. No light loads. We have 1 pallet weighing a whopping 1900lbs to deliver to Salt Lake City. Could barely keep the truck on the road. Im not fighting that for 400 miles. Checked the WY dot site and its still restricted. Im getting sea sick sitting in the truck now. Its really dancing. Hope it changes soon. Not sweating 1 frickin pallet of lunchmeat especially when Scott has my back. Safe travels all!

Dawn of anew day here in Wyoming. Still sitting...waiting. This wind will not die. Recorder gusts of 68mph with 45-55mph sustained. I would be criminally negligent to move. I weigh 38000. Talked to Tim and the shipper and everyone agrees with my decision. Refreshing to have intelligence and common sense prevail!! 1 frickin pallet to deliver. ONE!!! Arrgghhh!!!!

No. Not our fault, not Abilene' s fault. Just the way it goes. Mother nature wins and management does not want us endangering our lives, equipment, or cargo. Hooray for common sense prevailing!

They should pay you for having enough sense to not move the truck. There would be far fewer in the ditch if companies did. Another guy with financial troubles might make a different decision.

Compelling argument. Abilene does a really good job choosing their drivers. I've noticed above average mentality and intelligence amongst the drivers I've met here. None of them strike me as wanting to do anything unsafe and crazy. I am in really good company and a really good company here.

Safety first. These companies put cameras in the trucks in the name of safety but require drivers to spend days unpaid if it isn't safe to drive.

That policy is a hidden incentive for drivers to take chances. Companies will say they can't pay that because drivers will "take advantage" of it. Fire them if they do and hire good people.

I sat for 24 hours twice in the last month for the ice storms that gridlocked Atlanta. I was paid $150 both times no questions asked.

As silent observer, til now, I have to say comradeship is awesome among Abilene drivers. George, I'd say you chose a winning company to drive with. Hope you guys are able to overcome your seasickness and get moving again soon.
