Whether or not some country is socialist or not has nothing to do with cab searches.

Back on topic or this one will be locked too.

It it unfortunate that your FEEL that way. I had other words for you but will not take this too personal. You cannot categorize "cops" as a whole. If that were the fact I would have to categorize all truckers as a whole. After becoming a CVSA inspector, I completely changed my opinion of truckers. 98% are great guys and girls that I end up BSing with during an inspection. There are the 2% that you just can't please or already have a deeply embedded hatred for anyone with lights atop their cars.

Maybe walk a mile in a "cops" shoes...... become enlightened- ignorance is bliss.

Its funny you should say that cause half my family are cops, the other half works for ATT.. So, there is no ignorance in my words, I know how the system works and I know the encouragement cops get to unlawfully treat people.. The difference with truckers and cops ,98% good for truckers, cops are 98% bad and 2% good.. The system was not meant to be a revenue maker it was turned into a revenue maker..

I don't know what they go threw?

    He was my uncle

About to weeks before he was killed he had told his wife that he didnt want to be buried in his uniform.. When asked why he said that the department had changed in the time he served, he said he joined the force to help people not harass them...

It isn't "I" who has their belt buckled a wee too tight.

I don't understand the point here, but if we are comparing....I have been around trucking most of my life, my parents bought a truck-stop in Colorado about 1962, my mother worked at the same truckstop for over 14 years before marrying one of her "regulars". I come from a trucking family (grandfather and at least one uncle caught the "bug") and have held a CDL (or it's equivalent since 1980)

    Persistance

nor have I, but I don't know what this has to do with anything...
You must be a GOD!!! Really.

exactly why I joined almost two years ago.
Relax, this isn't the Inquisition here.

Hey ...look at Mark... there´s another....

I have found US cops to be polite although reserved and our own in blue actually sometimes quite good characters and crack jokes too like any of us.
They´re just doing their jobs so why not help them ?
Remember it´s a ###### job and somebody´s gotta do it...

I remember once a young hothead trying a chinlock on me...with a very good reason to believe I´d be trouble because of the reason he was called to the site.
His older partner was a humorous guy as I challenged the young cop by freeing myself and tripping him flat on his ### on a snowpile...and showing his skills learnt from copschool ain´t ####tobeginwhit...
Well actually it was just a primitive reflex from me considering the state I was in although the move was taught decades back.
After that the older one told me to cool down as there sure is a one room flat with a concrete bed with my name on it if I wouldn´t behave.
I replied that I got a 2000sg.ft Penthouse with my own sauna just one block next to the station will that do ?
He cracked at my joke and let me off the hook :biggrin_2559:

Well it seems there are some really weird rules and laws on the road, that I didn't even consider possible. What a world.

I, too, have to quibble with "most cops are bad" (though a tad less so that "the system is there to make money")

I've been in various aspects of law enforcement for a third of my life. Virtually every officer I've known would be more than happy to just ignore you and your truck.

*however*, there are bound to be some jurisdictions where the upper eschelon - and, therefore, the rank and file, has a thing about a population segment. Quite possibly, they got their attitude during the 70s when trucking (from what I'm told) was seen largely as a huge biker gang. VERY bad image.
But I'm just guessing on that.

The fact does remain that there are jurisdictions that are ... harsher on certain groups than they are on others.

If you can, find out where they are, and be ultra careful around them.

And, yes, even in benign areas, there are jerks. Sadly, it's a fact of life, and not much can be done about it. It's one reason I advocate onboard video cameras for truckers. Capture traffic (swoop and squat, for instance), as well as untoward incidents around the truck (takes more than one camera)

IT's not a legal document the way the video in the trunk of the cops car is, but it's still a hell of a good witness.

UPDATE: i received a letter from Colonel Forrest L. Smith,Motor Transportation police, Santa Fe, NM stating in part: " The state of New Mexico is bound by the US Constitution and the New Mexico State Constitution with regards to search and seizure. According to both the federal and state courts, a commercial vehicle is a unique that belongs to and is used in a (highly regulated industry). Thought the rules of search and seizure apply to the vehicle when it is involved in a criminal investigation, the rules DO NOT apply when conducting administrative rule enforcement, such as a "safety Inspection". He went on to state that along with looking at the bedding in the sleeper berth, an officer or inspector is also inspecting the inside of the can/sleeper for any alocoholic beverages, which a driver is not allowed to posses in a commercial vehicle. The officer is also inspecting the cab and sleeper area for debris that may hinder the occupants immediate exit from the vehicle if there were an emergency. In short, pretty much said they could do a SAFTEY CHECK anytime they wanted to. In his letter he cited FMCSA regulation 393.76(e)Required Sleeper Berth Equipment but never did cite the authority to search.
