Well I did my skid pad driving today and it was a blast. I was nervus at first but just told my self they will not put me in the postion to harm the truck or myself. I really learned alot from the pulling out of a jackknife to the shuffle steering. All the stuff I learned I can see being a big part of keeping myself and others safe out on the road. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TO ALL STUDENTS IF YOU HAVE THE CHANGE TO TAKE A SKID PAD COURSE TO DO IT. You also will be amized the diffrants of 5 miles an hour can make on slippery surface. Let's put this way it is the diffrants of hitting a school bus of kids or hitting nothing at all.
Also I will be starting with Roehl April 7th in Gary In, That's kind of scary in 10 days I have to leave. Well if anybody else out there will be starting with Roehl in Gary post me back would be nice to some what know some body down there.

It´s a must over here...a weeks course....
did they let you to do a handbrake/trailbrake manouvers too? -
That has got to be a blast.
As old as I am, you can still find me in empty (familiar) parking lots making doughnuts in the snow & skidding around trying to out steer the skid.
You have to picture this bearded old fart with a big grin on his face intentionally spinning out his Yukon while some youngsters in their new Dodge pickup look on with that deer in the headlights look cuz they're scared of the snow.
I wonder what the skid pad training costs by itself?
I might be interested in taking just that training. -
Yea they had me do the handbrake manouvers as well on the tractor tralier. On the bobtail they had me pull air brake valve and just let er go. -
I'd love to try that in a 85' truck and trailer.

If a Skid Pad is not available at the school you are planning on attending, are there ones out there that will allow you to take
a one or 2 day course to gain that experience? -
Oh, sorry, had to check this thread out. I thought maybe you were talking about my home.

Not sure if they still have it but I know Schnieder National used to have a skid pad.. A great tool for potential drivers to understand the workings of how a truck reacts to different speeds and conditions...

Fox Valley Community College in Appleton, Wisconsin has a skid pad. They have courses just for the public for skid pad. I was trying to get in to a local community college here at home, and one of the things that the course requires is that the students go up to Appleton for skid pad training.
