Today I ran over something and put a small...and I mean small..hole in a brand new bridgestone steer tire [email protected] each....the t/a wouldnt patch so I had no choice but to fork over another 600 for another one....Im loaded and its gotta get there ontime....so my question is ...would you patch it for a spare steer or is it now a real nice trailer tire......???? Hole is right in the middle and barely went thru about as big around as an ice pick (thats small)
what would you do???

Far as I know you are not allowed by law to patch steer tires, have to be replaced.
koncrete cowboy Thanks this. -
They couldn't patch it and put it back on the steers. That's against the law. Do you hear what I'm saying? Do not even think about using that tire for a steer. It's fine for a trailer.
koncrete cowboy and FatDaddy Thank this. -
10-4.
......coulda been worse...I. caught it in the fuel isle and went right to the shop...had it of went flat at 70mph..we all know what happens then...

I do lots of off road deliveries. I drive in manufacturing plants all the time, in other words, I run over nails, sticks, metal shavings... If I had to make a trailer tire out of every patched tire I have put back on a steer axle, I would be broke. The most important thing is........
Again HERE IS THE IMPORTANT PART...
NEVER EVER use a patch. ONLY use plug patches. Those are a 2 inch diameter patch with a 3 inch long plug attached to the center. If you can't get the patch on flat (do not try to get it on the shoulder inside of the tire) then it needs to be a trailer tire. If you can get that 2 inch patch completely flat you will be fine. I have put them on the sidewall as well, never had a problem as long as it doesn't touch the shoulder.not4hire, koncrete cowboy, 'olhand and 2 others Thank this. -
I was so happy when I got them new steers.....but #### happens

Patch it and go there is no law against patching a steer tire it is just tire shops fear of lawsuits .
I had this same thing happen to me once no chain truckstop would patch it I found a independent shop and they did it with no problems .lester Thanks this. -
Patches do fail, what would happen if a patch were to fail on a steer tire?
-
It would most likely develop a slow leak . new tires can blow apart as well
