I was looking at TruckPaper & the newer 780s gross weight is 54,000. Plus trailer.....doesn't leave much.
I'm a rookie & this may be a stupid question but with the truck so heavy....how can you haul anything ?

That is the gross vehicle weight rating with a load our new Volvos are the lightest in our fleet and weigh 16,900 pounds with a PTO and air compressor and that's a mid roof big sleeper truck

That is the weight the tractor axles and tires are rated to carry, 40k rears and 14k steers would be my guess as to the particulars, the trailer is probably rated to carry 40k on a tandem or a spread tandem.
Legally, a closed tandem can carry 34k, hope this helps.TruckDuo Thanks this. -
Ive got a '13 Volvo 670 and its super light. I don't know that exact weight of the tractor, but I can get 47k in the box and still be legal with 1/2 tank of fuel.TruckDuo Thanks this.

I have an 2007 VNL780 with the D12 motor in it. the gross weight is with haft tank of fuel is 18,700 # tanks are 120 gallon each. I have no problem with a load 45K in the box. right around 79,100.

That's the gross weight rating for the single vehicle, not the Gross Combined Weight Rating of the truck and trailer. That's the manufacturer's GVWR... the actual legal GVWR of it as a single vehicle will depend on bridge law, state law, etc, and will come down to a matter of wheelbase, axle and tire ratings, etc.

My Volvo with passanger, 1 150 gallon tank, 1 100 gallon tank full, headache rack, chains, binders, super single tires, tie straps.
total weight 19,700.
I'd say about 1000lbs worth of equipment.TruckDuo Thanks this.
