Just remember money aint everything. I enjoy millis but only seeing the wife once a month for 4 days aint worth it. Especially since we live in the freight lanes.

Millis is just doing what any other company does try to cut fuel costs and in this case is more want to give back to the drivers with better pay. There is already a idle bonus that puts a xtra 100 in your pocket every month if idle is low. I was a O/O for 7 years and fuel was what I wanted to save on because of the cost. We have all seen drivers that run there trucks 24/7 no matter the temp, can be 60 outside and they let truck run while watching TV at a terminal. Understand if a pet in the truck but Millis is no pets. And those with medical reasons understood or in the case of this winter does it ever get above 10

 

For those of you reading this blog been driving 13 years and will say Millis the best company I ever worked for. School yes a cost just the same as going to college but won't have the bill that college is. How you are treated a big part also Millis takes care of you not like other carriers and yes will be those that say can do better but learn later not the case. Take case in point Werner a student makes .22 a mile to start and .11 empty and will put any one in a truck. Millis you will have good training and a good wage, yes not going to make .40 a mile to start but can get there. Millis does not certify students to move from permit to CDL, they have your state DMV to do that other carriers use in house to test. There is so much more I can say but all comes down to this company a good place to start.

 

Millis never did me wrong, got me a solid start in the industry and I gave them 7 years. I trained 23 students in 4 years, had almost 1m miles, close but no cigar, and I wont speak ill of them. My biggest concern was hometime, followed by the cost of benefits. I got a rare chance to get into an LTL company that offers free blue cross/blue shield, and with 5 kids that means a lot to me. The gross pay ranges from 1200-1900/wk, depending on how hard u want to work. Dock work is completely optional, u can put as much time on the dock shuttling freight or running the yard truck as u want. No doubles or triples, profit share, and a pretty amazing compensation plan. Its not UPS or Fed Ex and those guys have good gigs, but this place is a good fit for me and my family. I started in Sept. 2013 and by end of year had nearly 25k on my w2, not too bad for being the bottom seniority driver. The 20 yr guys with the seniority don't do an hour of dock work per week and are making 120k+ yr. While this type of work is not for everybody I highly recommend LTL if you are looking for respectable $ that doesn't cost u weeks or even days away from your family.

 

Insurance is a huge cost at Millis and it does not cover very mich at all. Hometime is very important to any driver I get home on time but be nice t9 get thru the house when out on the road to see wife and kids.

 

Agree with Cadman 100%, great company but hometime is an issue for most drivers. Millis is in an unique situation that they CAN run most (not all) drivers through the house more often. Even the most loyal of Millis employees have to admit that the dispatching (very lazy and rude dispatchers) is the issue as far as keeping employees happier (cant make everyone happy).

 

Boomer for the most part truck drivers are easy to please. Give us miles keep us rollin keep us paid and get us home on time. For the most part millis has enougj freight to give all drivers 3k a week. But a select few only see that kind of miles week in and week out that are veterans. Newbies dont count cause we all know they get fed more.

 

Anyone who claims Millis is not a good OTR company hasn't really been around the industry. I find they are at or above average in any conceivable category.
They are making changes to be able to compete and they pass some savings to the drivers. A company must change or die. That my friends, goes for any business.

 

Then I suggest they change the fact that we don't get new accounts...maybe hiring a salesman or two to go out and bring in more business...would be more beneficial to the bottom line than the spending spree on trailer tails and cameras
