I would set it up where you earn 20% + 5% would for bonus categories ( Fuel Mileage, No CSA points, No tickets, No Service Failures or missed deliveries. On others...50/50 Detention 80/20 Lump your own load ( I keep 20% b/c I have to do the accounting for it, etc... )

Yes we sure do. We gross $5000 a week the driver makes $1125 a week which is $58500 a year. And our drivers are home everyday. Work 4-5 days a week.Cetane+ Thanks this.

You won't need to worry about that. "Yes please put that 46k load of beer on my truck" said no driver, ever. If you pay on a percentage, the driver owns some of the rate risk. If you have them self dispatching, they are motivated to hustle. After all, runs that make you money trickle right down into their own paycheck. If they don't hustle, the hurt comes down too.
It only took me a year and half to figure that out. Don't make the same mistake. Mileage pay will wear both you and your driver down.
If you don't know where to pin that percentage, ask a really good driver what they need to make in a week (gross pay). Put that against your revenue and figure out if you can afford them first. If so, make the offer. -
Are you able to do this with your trucks leased to a carrier or are you the carrier?

In Preacher Man's original post he stated his trucks would be owner-operator trucks. All the subsequent posts seem to be addressing employee drivers and not owner-operators.

OP is all over the place. In post #12 he is talking about employees driving his trucks that are leased on with Schneider. Who out there that owns a truck sub contracts to another owner who is himself leased on with a carrier? So he would get 65% from SNI and give his "owner operators" a cut from that? Makes no sense. Is he talking instead about lease purchasing trucks to drivers?

He wants to own a small fleet, hire drivers to put in said trucks. Because they aren't "SNI"( or whoever the carrier he chooses) company trucks they aren't forced dispatch. That's what I gathered.

What I am looking at is a common practice, in fact the entire Fedex ground system is based on the idea. I own the trucks which I then lease on to a larger carrier. I then hire the drivers for those trucks and as such they are my employees and I am the one who pays them. I am trying to find what I am going to have to pay to be competitive. Since the trucks are not company trucks they are not forced dispatch which is a benefit that I would like to pass on to my drivers. I addressed this to employee drivers and not owner operators, but the thread got moved into the owner operator sub-forum thus the confusion.
