Having high range on the landing gear be "out" instead of "in" is a PITA. When putting the handle on to crank it's really easy to push 1 mm to far and take it out of gear.
As to not having enough trailers I don't think the primary reason is customers storing their crud on our equipment (although that is a major problem) (WM paid us a boatload to pre-stage the 500 trailers in November). There are plenty of MTs, just not where you are. Doesn't matter where you are, if you need an MT, there won't be any around. However 500 miles away there are 50 mt trailers at a customer who is yelling at Schneider to send in some &$#@*#&$& drivers to get Schneiders %$*#& trailers off their *$&#& property.
Either that or MT trailers have to same magical properties as unicorns and leprechauns. They're always there, you just can't see them.

As much as I like drop and hook sometimes I just wish I had a permanently assigned trailer, or that it would be an option for ICs to use their own trailers.

I don't know about you, but I lower those trailer handlers on the crank.

the way I see it is 'all of the above' which works out to trailer management........truth be known, they have no idea where all of their trailers are and it's pretty sad considering they have trackers on all of them.
91B20H8 and dieselfuelonly Thank this. -
They can and will track trailers when needed. And it's pretty accurate. But what sucks is u are schedule to pu a empty and get to customer refuses to release even if u dropped a load. Really sucks.

When I asked about the empty trailer problem, a girl that works out of charlotte said she feels its poor trailer management by Schneider. I've been told to go to a customer for an empty and when I got there they didn't have any.

the good news / bad news is that trailer management is not exactly a 'dirty little secret'.....everyone in the company knows it's completely dysfunctional.....imagine you're in customer service having to explain that the driver can't pick you up today because he can't find an empty trailer? How soon would that get old? Imagine you're a DBL....same deal.... Frankly, I think just about everyone in this company feels the pain including, and perhaps most of all, the "Box Planners"......man, them folks NEVER have a good day. Honestly, I feel really sorry for them all. I usually only have to chase mty at the most once a week. Everybody else is chasing them and making excuses to our customers multiple times a day, every day.
That said......try to be kind to the other person on the line.....man, it ain't their fault.gentleroger Thanks this. -
Dips I totally agree with you. I didn't give her a hard time or anything. The only time it affects me is if im home for more than 48 hrs. No I would not like to have a box planners job!
