I just completed my orientation for Heartlands Texas salaried position. It was three days in Seagoville Texas just outside off Dallas. They have a new orientation guy here so things were a bit scattered as he, Cliff, is learning the ropes. There were seven of us that finished, one washed out for medical reasons. Unfortunately there were only four trucks available in the yard so three of us, including myself, are back in the hotel for the night. We are getting a rental car in the morning and heading to Olive Branch Mississippi to get our trucks on Friday.
i supposedly have weekends off and have a minimum guaranteed salary of $800.00 a week with hazmat. $775.00 without it. Not exactly sure as to what I will be getting or going but will post more as it happens. It is not Texas Regional or a dedicated position and I was the only one in the group in it.

Good luck Bumper! Not enough Deniro!

This is not my main source of income. I wanted the weekends off at home.

You trade stocks?

No I am already drawing a retirement from a previous job.

Good deal then! That takes a lot of pressure off I bet.

We'll I did get a truck in Olive Branch Mississippi and a Kelloggs load back to Dallas. Stayed at the yard on Sunday so that I could meet my Fleet Manager on Monday. Since I am on salary it didn't matter that I sat I got paid anyway. Met the office crew and then took a load down to the Temple Walmart. My first ever drop and hook at a Wally World DC. In and out in 40 minutes. I can def get used to that! Next was a load from Temple to OKC. Then today a K.C. Load from Jenks OK to Coppall Texas. Now I am deadheaded back to the Tulsa area for a load to South Texas so I can go home and stock up the truck. Living out of a suitcase for two weeks sux. So far so good.

Btw, forgot to mention that I am pulling a Gordon trailer. Got a few odd looks from drivers and I think I got a F Off on the cb from a Gordon driver.....hey we are one company...can't we all get along....

I have seen quite a few Gordon trailers around Atlanta and some in Florida now. Only one Gordon truck with a Heartland trailer so far though that I have come across in my area.
My time with Heartland is coming to a close though. Got offered a local job on a private fleet where I can be home every day and get paid about the same, maybe a little more.
Will be good for the wife, since she has no family in Florida, and it has been hard on her being alone all week.
Was a good ride up in Ohio, and down here my dispatcher has worked hard, and done his best. I think they have put too many drivers onto the dedicated fleet and that it is a little short sighted. Since the freight base is not growing as rapidly as the driver pool for the freight in the area. They just see a way to get more drivers accepting less per mile. But when the miles go down below what the fleet is supposed to average, it will cause retention issues. In this fleet and all the others in this lane.
I hope they get it figured out soon, or they could loose some good drivers. Retention is easer than recruiting, if they really work at it. And it is cheaper in the long run.
No complaints though. While Heartland is a large carrier, I have managed to get a bond with the people I work with directly, and we have learned to work well together. I just needed to be home every day, and that was not going to be possible, with a good steady income.
So, my 2 weeks notice is up on Friday, and will be starting new on Monday.
So people know that may ask. Yes, so far they are having me run my full 2 weeks, and I am supposed to turn in the truck in Jacksonville Friday, which is the closest terminal to home. They are working with me very well on it.Bumper Thanks this.
