This is the best place I felt to ask this question so here it is. I have everything I need for school and and the road. Steel toe boot's, glove's, sun glasses, ruler, paper, pen's, pencil's, clothes rain gear even a hand held CB but my question is this. I am being excepted into C-1 so far but my current job doesn't pay near enough for me to try and save up for school cost's like eat's, permit fee's, bus ticket there and back, taxi to the hotel and I'm not even sure if I can hich a ride to the school from the hotel during training. I didn't include the cost of a ride because at $6k you would figure they would at LEAST provide that much for you. After adding up the cost's based on $100 a week to eat. It would cost $570 just to have a safety line for that "just in case" kinda thing may happen. Sense I work in lawn service I don't make very much as the season is still really slow so I'm not hardly making anything. Barely able to handle paying what little I owe the IRS for tax's. *mumbles* (#### IRS) I'm basically being paid "mexican" wage.

When the season is in full swing I haven't made much more than $125 a week and I can't save money having to feed myself plus pay what little bill's I have and save anything for school too. I have asked everyone I possibly know for a loan and they knew I was good for it but didn't have it to loan. The bank won't give me one because I don't have bad credit but I just don't have enough of it. Does anyone have any idea's on how I can aquire this money? I really want to go and I am determined to make it through but getting the money up to go is really discouraging me. I've tried finding a higher paying job here but there's nothing to be had and they are very hard to find. Plus I would hate to start a job just to get the cash up for school just to leave shortly after making my record look bad.

At this point I'm really at a loss. I have no idea what else to do and I am so close after 3 year's of trying and the more I try to figure it out the more I get worried about my blood pressure even being young, yes I am concerned about it because it could cause me to fail the physical. I am going to check it next time I am at Walmart just to keep an eye on it an make sure I don't have failing results but I can't help but stress on it because I'm so close after 3 long year's of trying to get in to get my CDL. You guy's have any idea's?

Try looking into your States grants. I know there are several states that use lottery money to fund trucking schools for those who qualify and it sounds like you would qualify. Good Luck!

Well I tried for a grant through Diesel Driving Academy here in Shreveport but I had to go through a "GED" assesment test before I could qualify. Well, I took it. Went home then got a call back a week later with my result's. I passed the reading/language part in better than flying color's but my math wasn't so hot. Big deal I'm slow and not so good with math. I never have been. They asked math question's that you would use if you were a #### building designer. Who in the hell would use trig. or calc. driving a #### truck? I mean come on now. Beside's, if I could get that grant I would say to hell with PAM and their automatic truck's. I'm looking deep into Schneider as I speak. It seem's like the last 3 year's has been nothing but the run around and now the only issue is money. That 18 month agreement is starting to look mighty tastey and anyone would understand that if they have been steady at trying to get a single career for the last three year's. Hmmmmmm:biggrin_2554: Thank you for the Input Notarps. I was starting to feel as if I were alone here.:biggrin_25520:

Your welcome! You could do worse than snidey. They are not the best, but I hear the training is decent. Most seem to move on to better gigs later. I just hate chaining myself to any co. That can be a long time if things don't go well! Good luck!:yes2557:

Maybe I am missing something here, but can't you guys go to your local community /technical colleges instead of going to a "Professional" driving school or a company school??? the reason why I ask is that for my wife's business (Real Estate and Business textbooks), I conduct searches for colleges and private schools. Most of the colleges I have seen have CDL training. Why not take advantage of your community/technical colleges?, after all, you paid for them with your tax $$$$.

Grants and loans are much more easier to obtain from the colleges and they have the staff there that will assist you.

Go here for an example http://www.lctcs.edu/news.asp?articleID=160

Private schools have only one main objective: turn you out whether or not you obtained the necessary training beyond the "basics". as long as they receive your $$$.
Let me repeat...community colleges. And if you happen to take other courses along the way well, you can never have enough knowledge in life.

    Good luck:yes2557:

Yea, signing a contract with a company I may not like for training has been a bit on the other side of my mind and I'm not so sure about it. For as long as I've spent out on the road in a truck I was pretty much tought everything thing hand's on one-on-one so there's really not much of anything I don't know about a truck. I know I need to brush up on a couple of thing's like my pretrip and backing.

I looked into my local community college annd vocational school's and they don't offer the training. Only close is diesel mechanic classes and that's at the vocational school which cost #### near just as much as getting a CDL at DDAI.

I hear about the state WIA program but they don't offer it to Caddo Parish residents so that's out of question. Really, I'm pissed. I want to ring my step dad's neck out right for barrowing the money under my mom's credit to go to school then ruining her credit causing her to have to file bankrupcy drive for a few year's then get's popped for what?! A failed drug test.... He get's a local job back home slingin' tires and come's home ######## about everything then a year later ask's his parent's for $1,500 to get his CDL back so he can go back on the road and he did it for about 6 months then quit driving again only to take on a really ###### job that's more than an hour drive one way to get do.

I told him to hand that CDL over to me and let me put it to good use because unlike you I plan on keeping mine and sticking with it. That just really burns my ###.:biggrin_25510:
