I've been meaning to post my experience with this company. I'm graduated from Roadmaster in Jacksonville on Aug. 23 and decided Willis Shaw was the company for me. I went to orientation in Atlanta the very next week. 3 days of orientation. They didn't have any trainers available so I had to wait about a week for a trainer. I had an awesome trainer, we got a long extremely well and he was a very good trainer. Training pay is $400/wk. I got my own truck on Oct 23 and have been solo since. Willis Shaw Express merged with Midwest Coast Transport so the company is now MCT but still part of ComCar. The trucks are International Prostars and are automatic. I personally didn't think Id like the auto but it's very nice to have when dealing with stop and go traffic. I was lucky enough to get assigned a great dispatcher who keeps me running. I'm averaging about 2800-3200 miles a week and started at .30. WSE had a .30/loaded and .20/empty but when they merged its .30/loaded and empty starting out. My monthly loan payment for the training is $225/month but the company pays for $150 for the life of the loan as long as I stay with the company. I'm personally having a great experience with this company. I think a lot of that has to do with how great and understanding my dispatcher is. He knows I'm new at this and helps me out when Ive made a mistake or when I have questions. I keep up with a lot of my friends I made at Roadmaster and I'm the only one out of our class who has stayed with the original company choice out of school. You have to be out for at least 2 weeks before you qualify for home time. I personally stay out for a month and come home for 4 days. I haven't had a single problem getting home time when I requested it. I ended up getting both Thanksgiving and Christmas off even though I told my dispatcher Id work on thanksgiving. I don't really have any complaints on this company. The only thing I think they could improve on is trailer maintenance. A lot of the trailers landing gear sucks. Like the high gear doesn't work so I spend 20 minutes in whatever weather either raising or lowering the legs in low gear. But all in all this is definitely a great company for a beginner. I can definitely see myself sticking with them until I'm ready to settle down and find something local which I don't plan on doing until my training loan is paid off (36 months).

Does MCT still have their plant operation in Sanford, FL? I used to like doing those runs in the winter when I was with them.
-
Yes they do. I just came off a plant load from there about 2 weeks ago. Hard work unloading but great money with the multi-stops.

I sent you a PM. Please check you inbox as soon as you can. Thanks.

I am going to try MCT out.

I liked working for them. It has a small company feel. Automatics make trucking easy as pie.
Leftnut Thanks this. -
Started out with Willis Shaw and continued with MCT when the merger occurred. A lot of things started getting streamlined with MCT. We, Drivers, actually started getting treated as Adults and Professional Drivers. I have ran Refrigerated Loads throughout the Country before transferring to the Foliage Division in Sanford, Fl. I have no complaints with MCT or Comcar. I enjoy working with the people employed at MCT/Comcar. I also like the fact that if it becomes an interest I can explore other companies within Comcar. I love where I am at now. My Fleet Manager is always accessible and I get any other Support from MCT Sioux Falls or Elm Springs. The 2013 Prostars are well equipped. APU's are a blessing. The Tractors are Autos and I enjoy that. Yes I drove in just about all the major snow and ice storms last year. They perform well. APU's are a blessing but in extreme cold, we got caught with a lot of Tractors Fuel Systems "Gelling". We got some older Great Dane Trailers that literally need to be Scrapped but we have and are getting updated Utility Trailers, very nice. As a starter company..I rate it "A" Plus, A Company to stay with, "A". Wish the Pay would go up just alittle. I am pleased and happy with MCT and would and have recommended them as a Company to work for. I treat people as I would like to be treated and MCT does that.
