One has to look at all the key factors in play here to tally the cost. One I can see as a company driver how painfull the fuel pump bandit is. The ones who are hurting the most is the O/O's. Remember most company drivers are under forced dispatch. How are they going to strike being non union? Second the only ones that have a little more say so in what they do are the O/O's and how long can you afford to strike with all your payments stacking up against you? Companies will need their freight moved and will look at non union companies to do it. Back to the company driver who is non union who will be fired for not getting the freight there because the company will say we are paying for the fuel not you. Get the load there. I see this strike as a dog chasing it's tail. What are you going to do when you catch it?
Hence the problem of a nation wide strike. Again there are to many factors involved in the equation. I know there is a problem, but I don't see a strike helping the matter any only making it worse.
Look at GM and all their strikes. Those plants in Anderson IN (former world headquarters for Delco Remy (GM) are in mexico. Those factories that was making the big bucks are now off the wall companies making 8 bucks an hour. You are just inviting mexican truckers here to do your job by striking. -
quit thinking strike, this is a shutdown, a protest over unfair practices that are hurting ALL drivers, company and O/os alike

Make sure you have an ID on you so they know what to put on your toe tag. -
To really oversimplify why something needs to be done, imagine you were a roofer or something. Would you do that job for $5/hr? No? Then why would you haul a load for 90 cents/mile? This is why we're in the boat we're in... all the guys undercutting just to stay in business.
Where I am, some companies pay O/O's around $1.30 mile or so, with most paying percentage of gross revenue at 85%. There are some places paying $2.10/mile, but they are RARE. In the prairie provinces, I have many friends who are home every 2nd or 3rd night, never leave the province, and make $1.10 per KILOMETRE. (.62 miles in a Kilometre, you do the math)
Figures I have seen estimate that diesel has gone up over 300% since 2004, while freight rates have gone up less than 40% since 1978. A message MUST be sent that this will CRIPPLE our industry, and if our industry goes, the whole house of cards comes tumbling down.
The truckers who came before us helped caused this problem by cutting each other's throats. Now the question is, what are WE going to do about it? Get on the CB, call your congressman or Member of Parliament (this problem is in Canada too... we pay even MORE for fuel). Call the radio talk shows. Call the TV stations. -
Hi to all the truckers in the nation.
I'am not a driver but I think you guys and gals do one hell of a job keeping this nation moving and alive.
Through all kinds of conditions whether it be bad weather, disasters, accidents, road closings you truckers always find away to get our foods to the supermarkets, fuel to the service stations, cars to the dealers and the list goes on and on and on.
Ya'll should strike to show everybody how important you drivers and the trucking industry really are. Let the nation shut down for a few days to see if the Government likes and decides to help.
The mail must go through is the motto of the post office. B_ ll S__T.
You people should get alot more recognition then the mail man. Who cares about the mail compared to everything from soup to nuts that are everyday necessities.
Your motto is "It will get through"
Keep up the great work and good luck
GOD BLESS YOU ALL -

Unfortunetly if people just whine and cry to their congressmen and senators it will fall on deaf ears. Americans have come to the conclusion that nothing can be done with our nations issues and back down from anything that might get them into a punchup or have any negative reprecusions. I say its time to suck it up and quit talkin to these goverment pukes and show em that the Americans want their friggin country back and no longer will we just sit and wait like good lil puppy dogs for an answer that NEVER comes!
